MOKOPANE - The tornado that wreaked havoc in Gauteng on Monday also took its toll in Limpopo when it devastated the village surrounding the Hans Masebe school.
Extensive damage was inflicted on houses in the area and the well-built brick classrooms were almost totally destroyed in some cases, while others nearby escaped with roofs either missing or partially peeled back.
A 5-year-old boy, William Mavalela, was killed when a wall of his home caved in on him. Some 50 people were treated by hospital staff for an assortment of injuries, including cuts and lacerations from flying sheets of corrugated iron.
The tornado then moved on to the Anglo American open-cast Platinum Mine, leaving an intermittent damage swathe of 200 to 250m, skipping over the boundary fence and railway line and inflicting a

nou aan die Staat en slegs 14.4% is op grondeisers se name geregistreer. So lui ‘n verslag wat deur DA woordvoerder, Lindiwe Mazibuko verlede week uitgereik is. Volgens haar wys die departement van landelike ontwikkeling en grondhervorming se 2010/11 verslag daarop dat van die 322 844.9931 hektaar grond wat tydens die 2010/11 finansiele jaar aangekoop is, is 276 396.6839
Staat gaar grond ophektaar grond in die staat se naam geregistreer en slegs 46 448.3038 hetaar aan grondeisers behoort.
Mazibuko meen dat dit een van die groot redes is waarom grondhervorming nie in Suid-Afrika slaag nie.
“Eisers wat grond van die Staat huur kan nie lenings by die bank aangaan om verbetering op die grond aan te bring nie. Wie gaan in elkgeval verbeterings aanbring op grond wat nie jou eiendom is nie?"
Volgens Theo de Jager, adjunk-president van Agri SA, word hierdie sentimente bevestig deur swart lede van dié landbou-unie.
“Swart lede van Agri SA, sê hul grootste probleem is finansiering en grondeienaarskap en as die Regering aangaan soos nou, is daar oor 10 jaar net twee soorte boere: blanke boere wat grondbesitters is en swart boere wat grond huur van die Staat. Dit is ook nie grond hervorming nie. Suid-Afrika behoort te leer uit internasionale ervaring. Ondervinding in ander lande toon dat staatsgrond wat verhuur word nie so produktief soos privaatgrond ontwikkel en geboer word nie en dat die hulpbron ook dikwels skade ly wanneer grond verhuur word,” meen de Jager.
Tussenverkiesing verloop in goeie gees

Two mine employees in a bakkie report that their vehicle was either “moved slightly” or temporarily “levitated”, but that they escaped unscathed, with no damage to the bakkie.

MOKOPANE - On Monday Democratic Alliance national spokesperson, Lindiwe Mazibuko, handed over a Memorandum and Petition with about 1 000 signatures to Mogalakwena Municipality. The Memorandum contains a number of community’s grievances over lack of service delivery in Ward 31, extensions 14, 19 and 20. The contentious issues are about lack of electricity, water, sanitation and road infrastructure.
The Memorandum was received on behalf of the Mayor by the member of the executive committee and head of the portfolio committee on finance, Abram Kgaphola. “It

According to divisional head of waste management at the Lephalale Municipality, Joshua Hlapa residents are required to take garden refuse to the landfill site. “We are in the planning phase of a composting project, a garden refuse site will be built in Onverwacht and Marapong,” Hlapa said.

Illegal dumping frustrates residentscleaning up the site in question, Hlapa said that the municipality will contact the owner of the property to clean it up. “If the owner does not comply with the request, the municipality will clean it up and charge the owner.”

New top cop for LimpopoThe Limpopo MEC for Safety, Security and Liaison, George Phadagi this week officially announced the appointment of Major-General B.M Ntlemeza as the acting Limpopo Police Provincial Commissioner. Maj-Gen Ntlemeza’s appointment is with effect from 1 October 2011 until a permanent appointment is made.
Maj-Gen Ntlemeza steps into the boots of Lt-Gen Amon Mashigo who was the Provincial Commissioner for Limpopo until he left the South African Police Service at the end of September after 34 years of service. Lt-Gen Mashigo leaves behind a province with the lowest crime statistics in the country.
We aim to maintain the status of Limpopo as the home of peace. We are confident that the current SAPS leadership has what it takes to roll back the tide of crime in the province.
Maj-Gen Ntlemeza has been part of the SAPS leadership with Lt-Gen Mashigo that is credited with making Limpopo too hot and too small for criminals – a fact borne out by the province’s crime statistics.
Short-listing for the permanent replacement has been done and interviews will be conducted in the middle of October.
Illegal cigarettes found LEPHALALE – 275 cartons Illegal cigarettes were found on the Beska road. A farm owner found the cartons covered in a blanket under a tree and alerted the police. “These cigarettes are becoming a real problem,” said Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena.

Man dies on Beska roadLEPHALALE - A man died and four others were injured on Sunday in the early morning hours when a large SUV travelling on the Beska road drove into a stationary passenger vehicle which was parked on the side of the road with its lights off. One of the five people in the passenger car died on the scene while the others, as well as the SUV-driver, were taken to hospital with no serious injuries. A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
Robbers strike in MarapongLEPHALALE – Two friends were heading for the ATM at outside the Marapong Spar last Friday evening when they were approached by two men who demanding money. One of the victims fled and when the other tried to also run, the assailants fired off a gunshot, wounding the victim in his right hand. A case of attempted murder was opened and is under investigation.

Lekkkeeerrrrrr, dink ek terwyl ek my uitstrek om te begin lees aan ‘n boek wat al maande langs my bed lê. ‘n Vakansie is eintlik gemaak vir boeklees besluit ek, want die probleem met ‘n boek is dat ‘n mens die ding nie wil neersit nie. Sodra jy nie kan wag om uit te vind wat op die volgende bladsy gaan gebeur nie, moet daar met huiswerk gehelp word.
Of jy staan laatmiddag dikmond van die rusbank af op, om so gou moontlik aandete te maak. Dan jaag jy die kinders deur die bad en sit hulle ‘n uur te vroeg in die bed, sodat jy nog net ‘n paar bladsye kan lees
Meer as ‘n vakansie...voor jou oë onwillikeurig toeval. Nee wat, ek los maar die boeklees vir vakansies!
Net ‘n week is al wat ‘n mens nodig het om daardie ‘tenkie’ weer vol te kry en om bietjie van die stres ontslae te raak.
Maar eintlik besef ek, nadat die boek gelees is, die slaap ingehaal is, die lyf ontspan het en die skole weer Maandag begin, dat elke dag soos ‘n vakansie behoort te wees.
Hierdie ding van jouself uitbrand of jouself in‘n ander bloedgroep in stres is nie regtig God se plan vir ons nie.
Vir my is die definisie van stres die onvermoë om God 100% met elke aspek van ons lewens te vertrou.
As ons glo dat God dié beloon wat Hom soek (Heb 11:6), dat Hy weet wat ons nodig het, en dit met liefde sal voorsien (Mat 6: 32), dat Hy ons nooit in die steek sal laat nie (Ps 37:25) sal ons elke dag in Sy
rus kan ingaan (Heb 4).
In Matteus 11:28 nooi Jesus ons: “Kom na my toe, almal wat moeg en oorlaai is, en ek sal julle rus gee.”

Dit is 1600cc motors soos hulle uit die fabriek kom, die sitplekke word eenvoudig uitgehaal en daar word ‘n rolhok ingebou. Na 2009 het ek in die vinniger 1660cc ombouings begin ry. Ek jaag steeds in dié klas.
NN: Wat kos so ‘n renmotor en wat kos dit om te begin deelneem?
‘n Passie vir vinnige karre!AC: Dit hang alles af van die klas waarin deelgeneem word. ‘n Motor vir die 1660cc ombouingsklas kan enigiets van R60 000 en meer kos. Daarby moet jaers lisensiegelde betaal, veiligheidstoerusting aankoop en die vereiste mediese versekering uitneem.
NN: Was jy al in ‘n ongeluk?AC: Te veel kere. Die ergste was op Mahem in Pretoria in 2009 tydens die Suid-Afrikaanse kampioenskappe.
NN: Watter prestasies het jy al behaal in hitsmotor (hot rod) resies?AC: In 2008 was ek tweede in die Suid-Afrikaanse kampioenskappe, in 2009 tweede in die 1660cc ombouingsklas in die Suid-Afrikaanse kampioenskappe en verlede jaar derde.
NN: Het jy borge wat dit vir jou moontlik maak om te ry?
AC: Ja, Fred Cooper Sand en Klip, Piet Stickers, Mokopane Engineering, Autozone Mokopane, VOS Gearbox & Diff, Lahri’s Tyre & Mag, Noise Boise Mokopane, Morpiet Brake & Clutch, Magic Weld en Econo Engineering.
NN: Het jy enige raad of motivering vir nuwe toetreders tot die sport?AC: Sit alles in – in motorsport dra die kar 20% en die bestuurder 80% by tot sukses. Jou hart moet methanol walms pomp en dit moet in jou bloed wees. Maar onthou alles gebeur nie oornag nie, jy word beter en vinniger deur ondervingding wat tyd vat om op te doen. Respekteer spoed. Ek is nie een om te praat nie, maar straatresies is
gevaarlik – hou dit op die baan.
