MICRAST-LWhat is a fair price for a city mover?
No one can give you a fair answer, and it depends on who you are. Nissan is famous for a number of products such as big 4 wheel drive - Patrol, luxury sedan - Maxima, Sports car - Fairlady 370Z and the all mighty jaw dropping GTR. In terms of small and medium size car, Micra has a distinctive fame for being a light / small car.
Think about a Japanese light car, it couldn’t be too cheap, as labour cost and other overhead make it generally hovering around $12,990. The third generation Micra wants to maintain their price tag attractiveness, by giving its customers a choice of a 1.2 litre 3 cylinder petrol model with a manual transmission for just that price of $12,990. Adding $2,000 you will get a four speed automatic gear box. In addition, if you want more pulling power, the 1.5 litre 4 cylinder petrol model starts with $14,990 with manual and $2,000 for the 4 speed auto.
We like the Micra 1.5L ST-L, it is fresh, very agile, solid and versatile. However, the true beauty of it is its Nissan craftsmanship, engineering and design. The Micra, can park in almost any space and make a U turn in unbelievable tight and busy road conditions. It is because its turning radius is just 4.5 metres. I believe not too many front wheel drive car can do that.
The strange and odd looking appearance has gone. I think that is good, as a lot of people just need that blend in feeling amongst others. On the other hand, I don’t think it is plain. It has its unique Nissan character and makes you think about it as a Micra. The Porsche 911 big fog eye like headlight has taken the centre stage with a small upper air intake separated with name colour bumper with a much larger air intake at the bottom. It is a more pleasant smiling happy face.

The profile of Micra has still retained its first generation look, with a dome shape top and a round body. The roof has been given special treatment for safety, strengthening and noise dampening. The roof is also linked smoothly with the high point rear brake lights. The result is an aerodynamic and unique dome cabin with a regal style. The Micra also stretches its wheel base that interior space is more generous.
Interior of the car is predominantly a uniform of black plastics with some silver plastic decoration for the audio and air con controls. It has a friendly and logical presentation of all the things that you need; like aux jack for line in and telephone answering button and generous storage areas around in the cabin.
Driving position is nice with height adjustable seats and supportive cushions. The command cluster is neat with speedo, tachometer and selective computer read out.
We found the Micra ST-L has a powerful engine. Power is 75kW for the 1.5Litre engine. Torque is 136Nm. Transmissions: 4-speed automatic. Fuel economy with a combined driving pattern is claimed to be 6.6 for the 1.5Litre auto.
Acceleration is excellent and noise dampening is amongst the bests in it class. The four speed automatic matches its 1.5L engine with smoothness. You don’t feel the engine is struggling or things like that. Harsh acceleration is well responded with flair. Inside the cabin, it is surprisingly quiet given the fact that most light or small cars will fail in this department. Visual to the exterior is nice with a good dome shaped roof offering extra bonus to generous head room.
While travelling in narrow streets and even on open roads, the Micra gives us its assurance of solid built and a sense of security. It is agile in changing lanes and swift in handling almost all road conditions. The steering is well weighted although not telescopically adjustable. I don’t feel too light in highway or too heavy while parking. The strength of this car undoubtedly is craftsmanship and design that bring the Micra to another level.
