Warsaw attracts with its extraordinary history and historic architecture. Can you believe that only 70 years ago Warsaw was completely devastated in the aftermath of World War II? Thanks to the enormous determination of its dwellers, in just a couple of decades, the city was rebuilt from rubble. This unprecedented reconstruction was acknowledged by UNESCO in 1980 which entered the Warsaw Old Town in the World Heritage List.

The collection of the Royal Castle stands out particularly with Rembrandt paintings and the collection of Canaletto works which served as the basis for postwar reconstruction of numerous historic Warsaw buildings and items.

Diversity of Warsaw is best seen on its culinary map; among over 3500 Warsaw restaurants, one will find any cuisine of the world. This year, another Warsaw restaurant was awarded the Michelin star.

From medieval monuments through precious examples of modern art to engaged street art – in Warsaw art is seen almost everywhere we go. Among over 60 museums, the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews is particularly recognized. It has won the European Museum of the Year Award 2016 granted by the European Museum Forum.

The Faras Gallery in the National Museum is especially worth seeing – it is a worldwide unique exhibition of Nubian art from the Christian period. This exceptional gallery is the winner of MUSE Awards granted by the American Alliance of Museums. Sybilla Grand Prix 2014 and MUSE Awards granted by the American Alliance of Museums.

Within twenty years Warsaw has changed beyond recognition. It has become a European metropolis and a perfect place to live, work and invest. According to Eurostat, in the years 2008-2013, GDP per inhabitant of the Masovia region grew the highest within the whole EU.

Fryderyk Chopin is, next to Maria Skłodowska-Curie, world’s most famous Varsovian. The genius composer inspires and attracts hordes of music lovers until today. The music of Fryderyk Chopin can be heard in numerous places in Warsaw. The route of places connected with the composer can be found by following playing benches in the city. Continually since 1959, open Chopin Concerts have been held every year in the Royal Łazienki Park.

The multimedia Fryderyk Chopin Museum gathers the greatest collection of the composer’s mementoes in the world. It is also part of the Fryderyk Chopin Institute which organizes the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition every five years in Warsaw. The next edition will be held in 2020.

The capital city of Poland is an inspiring place also for artists. Such famous people as composer Fryderyk Chopin, writer Joseph Conrad, Isaac Bashevis Singer – Literature Nobel Prize winner, pianist Władysław Szpilman or reporter Ryszard Kapuściński, are connected with Warsaw.

The Museum of King Jan III’s Palace in Wilanów is an incredible baroque residence with an interior of rich royal apartments. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, it is the oldest Polish art museum. In the autumn-winter period it is worth seeing the Royal Light Garden, filled with thousands of colourful lights.

Incredibly green, the Royal Łazienki Museum consists of some real pearls of European architecture: the Palace on the Isle or the Royal Theatre in the Old Orangery. The Royal Łazienki Park is the largest and the most beautiful park in Warsaw.

In Warsaw, which is the scientific centre of Central-Eastern Europe, there are over 70 higher education institutions. The two hundred old University of Warsaw was elected the best Polish university in 2016. Warsaw is much popular among foreign students. During the last 15 years University of Warsaw alone has had almost six thousand students from abroad studying as part of the Erasmus programme.

For many years Warsaw has been focusing on ecology and sustained development. As much as one fourth of the city is green areas: forest, parks and squares. This makes Warsaw one of Europe’s greenest capital cities. The Warsaw City Bike, a municipal bike rental, ranks in the world’s top ten according to USA Today. The city’s cycling route comprises over 400 km of bicycle lanes.

More than 40 theatres, tens of cinemas, galleries, community centres and art studios, thousands of concerts and exhibitions – Warsaw is a city where cultural life is flourishing. In many places art takes to the street and thus becomes available and democratic.

Situated between the Old Town and the Vistula River, the Multimedia Fountain Park attracts thousands of viewers to its summer “water-light-sound” shows.

One of the greatest Warsaw treasures is the Vistula. It is called the last wild river of Europe. The river is not only a reserve of multiple species of wild animals, but one of the favourite places for Warsaw dwellers and tourists. Thousands of people come to the newly built boulevard, use bicycle lanes and visit fashionable cafés.

Warsaw attracts major political, social and sports events. In 2012 it was the co-host of the European football championship, where a total of 360 thousand people celebrated in the fan zones. Climate Change Conference 2013, 2015 Europa League Final, Global Summit of Women 2016 and the NATO Summit 2016 are only some of the international events that take place in Warsaw.

Among sports events, Warsaw street runs of various distances are especially popular. Each year, there are about 200 such events taking place with thousands of people from Poland and abroad attending them. Warsaw dwellers also take advantage of more than 160 outdoor gyms and over 400 km of bicycle lanes.

Warsaw is getting more and more innovative and entrepreneurs friendly. Modern infrastructure, excellently prepared personnel and office space that enlarged in 2015 by six percent. This all places Warsaw on the fourth position in the fDi ranking in the Business Friendliness category.
