OF ONE HEART AND MIND
Reading about the faith of the early Christian believers can be a real inspiration to those of us who have been
Christians for a long time, as well as for those who are newly baptized. Can you imagine people of this world being “of one heart and mind” as was the first commu-nity of believers? To-day’s First Letter of John seems to hold the key to how this can be accomplished.
Keeping God’s commandments and loving all of God’s children seems to be the start of being “of one heart and mind.” We live in a world that stresses differences—differences among religions, among races, between gen-ders, and among economic classes. Today we are sum-moned to focus on what we all share in common on this fragile planet of ours. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
UN SOLO CORAZÓN Y UNA SOLA ALMA
Al leer sobre la fe de las primeras comunidades de creyen-tes puede ser fuente de gran inspiración para los que han
sido cristianos por largo tiempo, como también para los que acaban de ser bautizados. ¿Te pue-des imaginar a gente de hoy que “tiene un solo corazón y una sola alma” igual que la primera co-munidad de creyentes? La primera carta de san Juan que leemos hoy es la clave que nos dice cómo podemos lograrlo.
Si guardamos los mandamientos de Dios y si amamos a to-dos los hijos de Dios parece ser la base de poder tener un “un solo corazón y una sola alma”. Vivimos en un mundo que recalca las diferencias –ya sean entre religiones, razas, géneros y clases. Hoy se nos pide que nos enfoquemos en lo que tenemos en común en este frágil planeta que ocupa-mos. Knights of Columbus – Statewide Raffle Each year, the many Councils of the Knights of Colum-bus join together in a state-wide raffle. Proceeds from the raffle are shared with each Council’s home parish. This weekend, during the Pancake Breakfast, members of our parish’s Ave Maria Council will be selling tickets for this year’s raffle to be held on 16 May. Prizes are:
1st – $10,000 2nd – $7,000 3rd – $5,000
4th – $3,000 5th – $2,000 6th – $1,000
7th through 10th (4) – $500 each
Tickets are $5 each, $20 for 5 tickets or $100 for 30 tickets.
Caballeros de Colón – Rifa Estatal Cada año, los diferentes Consejos de los Caballeros de Colón se unen en una rifa estatal. Las ganancias son compartidas con la Parroquia de cada consejo. Este fin de semana, durante el Desayuno de Panqueques, los miembros de nuestro Consejo Ave María estarán vendiendo tickets para esta rifa que se re-alizará el 16 de mayo. Los premios son:

Holy Week – The Work of Many Hands & Voices
From Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday, our Catholic Church is rich in its liturgical celebrations. To celebrate them well requires a lot of people and a lot of time (a good amount of which is “in the background”). Thank you to all who went “the extra mile” to make our observance of this sacred time rich in its prayerfulness: our music ministries (Anglo, Hispanic and African Choirs working together as one); our Jóvenes Adultos group (young Hispanic Adults); our Knights of Columbus; our Liturgical Ministers; and members of our parish and school staff.
Under the direction of Manuelita Aguirre, parishioners of various ages and from our different ethnic groups presented our Living Stations of the Cross on Good Friday. Then, on Easter Sunday morning, under the direction of Deacon Mario Aguirre, members of various organizations and ministries within our Hispanic Community contributed plants and time to plant a Resurrection Garden on our Parish Plaza.
Our “unity in diversity” shone brightly throughout the week. May we continue to grow as one, holy, catholic and apostolic parish in the coming year.
Semana Santa – El trabajo de muchas manos y voces
Desde el domingo de Ramos hasta el Domingo de Pascua, la Iglesia católica es rica en sus celebraciones litúrgicas. Para celebrar bien re-
quiere una gran cantidad de gente y un montón de tiempo (una buena cantidad de la que se encuentra “detrás de la corti-na”). ¡Gracias a todos los que aportaron “la milla extra” para que nuestra observancia de este tiempo sagrado rico en su espíritu de oración: nuestros ministerios de música (los coros anglosajones, hispanos y africanos trabajaronn juntos como uno solo); nuestro grupo de Jóvenes Adultos (Adultos Hispanos
jóvenes); nuestros Caballeros de Colón; nuestros ministros litúrgicos; y los miembros de nuestro personal de la parroquia y de la escuela.
Bajo la dirección de Manuelita Aguirre, feligreses de diversas edades y de nuestros diferentes grupos étnicos coordinaron el Via Crucis el Viernes Santo. Luego, el domingo de Pascua por la mañana, bajo la dirección del Diácono Mario Aguirre, miembros de diversas organizacio-nes y ministerios dentro de nuestra Comunidad Hispana contribuyeron para plantar bellas flores en un jardín de Resurrección en nuestra Plaza Parroquial.
Nuestra “unidad en la diversidad” brilló durante toda la semana. Que podamos seguir creciendo como una, parroquia santa, católica y apostólica en el próximo año.

Celebrating Easter Sacraments Celebrando los Sacramentos de la Pascua
First Communion
As has become our custom these past few years, our pri-mary time for celebrating First Communion will be at the Masses of the 3rd Sunday of Easter. This is the Sunday of the Easter Season on which our scripture readings focus on Jesus eating with his disciples and when they recognized him “in the breaking of the bread”. Therefore, at all but the 8:00 AM Sunday Mass next weekend (Saturday and Sunday, 18 & 19 April) we will be celebrating First Communions.
Although it would be great to celebrate all First Communions on this Sunday, we cannot accommodate all of our children on one Sunday, nor is it convenient for all families. Therefore, we will include another celebration at the Mass in Spanish on Sun-day, 24 April at 1:00 PM.
Please note that at all First Communion Masses, the seats in the front of the church will be reserved for the First Communi-cants and their parents/sponsors.
Primera Comunión
Como se nos ha hecho costumbre estos últimos años, cele-braremos la Primera Comunión el tercer domingo de Pascua. Este es el domingo del tiempo de Pascua en que nuestras lec-turas de las escrituras se concentran en que Jesús comió con sus discípulos y fue cuando ellos lo reconocieron “en al partir el
pan”. Por lo tanto, en todas las Misas del domingo del próximo fin de semana, con excepción de la Misa de las 8:00 AM (sábado y do-mingo, 18 y 19 de abril) celebraremos las Primeras Comuniones.
Aunque hubiera sido mejor el poder celebrar todas las Primeras Comuniones el mismo domingo, no podemos incluir a todos nuestros niños en un sólo domingo, ni es conveniente para todas las familias. Por lo tanto, vamos a agregar otra celebración en la Misa en español del domingo, 24 de abril a la 1:00 PM.
Favor de recordar que en todas las Misas de Primera Comunión, los asientos de enfrente de la iglesia estarán reservados para los comulgantes y sus familias y padrinos.

St. Joseph’s Youth Camp Founded by the Knights of Columbus Located just 23 miles SE of Flagstaff
Six days and 6 nights to enjoy the great outdoors! Includes: Horseback riding, kayaking, hiking, biking, archery, telescope & campfire nights, food, lodging, camp T-shirt, DVD of the week’s activities and much more!
Kids ages 8–15 who register before 30 April can save $50. Early registration is $498 (reg. $548).
Teens ages 15–17 can train to be Camp counselors. Training includes CPR, safe environment, and camp environ-ment programs. Opportunities available to earn community service hours. $198 for Training Week.

When we think about parish property and the church, we think “sacred space”; however, some people think “opportune space”. From time to time, persons wander through our parking lots during Masses checking cars for items to steal quickly. Several inci-dents occurred last weekend. Please protect your valuables by locking them in the trunk of the car or by being sure they are not visible from any window of the car. If you bring valuables into Mass, do not leave them in the pew when you go to com-munion because purses have also been taken from the pews.
