A few months ago I received an email from a reader in the U.S. enquiring about the whereabouts of Mr. Albert Wong whose personal story was published in the People Issue of Sameway No.79 about six years ago. This reader, from her reading of our website interview, suspected Mr Wong could be a close friend of her 85-year-old auntie who lived in Xian and had lost his contact for 60 years.

When I passed on the details of this reader to Mr Wong, he was astonished by the name of the old lady as if they were in very close relation. Two months after, Mr Wong came to my office to tell me he had re-connected with the lady who was his first lover 60 years back. They were disconnected through social and political changes over the decades and it was a miracle that they could be hooked up again through an interview of Sameway.

Each of our weekly People Issue tells about an amazing story of a people s life. This is yet another amazing and blessed encounter of Mr Wong which has brightened up his life.

Last week I also met Ms Zheng Tao from Shanghai as I accompanied her to find a suitable care hostel for her daughter Yo-Yo. Yo-Yo was turned vegetative overnight upon a car accident happened back in 2007 when she was a 18-year-old nice lady stepping into the nicest phase of her life. After the accident, her mother came over to Melbourne in taking intensive care of her in the darkest days of their lives. With their story published in Sameway No 72, 73 & 77, plenty of caring readers of the community went to visit them in the hospital and the rehab centre. Ms Zheng Tao personally experienced this real love and kindness; and they were filled with such blessing from Melbourne when about a year later they returned to China for subsequent treatment.

Even though Yo-Yo s medical situation has not much improved after five years, at this point they have returned to Australia and they are still coping with challenges in everyday of life; according to Ms Zheng Tao, they are still very grateful to the support from all the Sameway readers in journeying with them in their difficult times.

The stories of Mr Wong and Ms Zheng Tao always remind me of God s grace in allowing us to serve this community through Sameway.

[Biography] Christine Helliar is a Professor and Head of School in the School of Commerce, University of South Australia. She took up this position in June 2012. Her previous appointment was as a Professor of Treasury Management and Dean of the School of Business at the University of Dundee. Christine graduated from the University of London with an honours degree (Bachelor of Science) in mathematics and management studies and then worked at Ernst & Young for six years in the London office after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. She then moved into investment banking in the City of London where she worked for Morgan Stanley, Hong Kong Bank and Citigroup. After her finance career in the City of London she moved into academia, obtained her PhD from the University of Dundee for her thesis, Risk, Derivatives and Management Control in 1999, and has since published extensively in the areas of financial reporting, corporate governance, accounting education, risk and derivatives, auditing and management control. Her work has appeared in journals such as Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, British Accounting Review, Computers and Education, Corporate Governance: An International Journal and Management Accounting Research. She was Director of Research at The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland for six years from 2003-2009 and she is currently chair of the British Accounting and Finance Association. She is also member/fellow of other Professional associations, such as Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Member of The Institute of Chartered

Accountants of Scotland, Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia, Honoray Member of CPA Australia, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, UK, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK.
