In nog ‘n geweldadige aanval die af-ge lope week is me. Monica Coetzee Maandag helderoordag by haar woning in Kleynhansstraat, Louis Trichardt, aangeval deur ‘n rower wat haar met ‘n baksteen in die gesig geslaan het. Sy het die rower betrap toe sy ondersoek ingestel het waarom haar hondjies begin blaf het. Die rower het op die vlug geslaan nadat die honde hom aan sy broek gegryp het. By Monica is een van haar hondjies, Sussa. Monica het egter besluit om eerder nie ‘n saak te open by die polisie nie.

‘n Bekende familie van Louis Trichardt leef nou in vrees, nadat hulle die teiken geword het van boosdoenners op hulle plaas net buite die dorp.

Dit is ‘n skrale troos vir die Harris- en Labuscha-gne-families dat een van die boosdoeners doodges-kiet is - hulle voel steeds nie veilig in hul eie huis nie. Hulle woon op ‘n plaas sowat 15km uit op die

Vivo-pad. Freddie en Kimmy Harris woon saam met Kimmy se ouers, dr. Lappies Labuschagne en sy vrou Kim (Snr).

Die hele familie het verlede Vrydagaand (10de) gaan uiteet, juis om uit die huis uit te kom, nadat daar die laaste paar weke drie keer by hulle plaas-huis ingebreek is en hulle plaaswerkers met ‘n mes aangeval is.

Kimmy het vandeesweek met die Zoutpans-berger gepraat.

Die eerste voorval het op Saterdag, 27 Junie, plaasgevind toe daar by haar huis ingebreek is ter-wyl sy gou ‘n paar takies in die dorp afgehandel het. Niks is gesteel nie, maar, sê Kimmy, sy vermoed die skelms was nog in die huis toe sy geparkeer het en het haastig gevlug.

Kort hierna was daar ‘n mislukte aanval op hulle plaaswerkers gewees, toe rowers hulle met ‘n mes gedreig het op Donderdag, 2 Julie. Kim snr. kon hierdié aanval afweer deur ‘n waarskuwingskoot af te vuur.

Helaas was dit nie die laaste sien van die booswigte nie. Op Saterdag, 4 Julie, is daar ‘n tweede keer by Kimmy se huis ingebreek terwyl sy en haar dogter by Freddie gaan kuier het waar hy gewerk het op ‘n ander plaas.

‘n Geplunderde huis het haar met haar terugkeer begroet. Die rowers het feitlik al die sekuriteits-hekke oopgebreek om in te kom, en boonop al die kerse opgebrand om hul vuilwerk te doen. ‘n Ingeboude kluis is deur die rowers oopgeforseer deur eers die betonmuur weg te kap en toe ‘n gat te kap aan die kant van die kluis met ‘n byl.

Al die Harrisse se wapens is netjies uitgepak, maar die rowers het net ‘n pistool gesteel. Hulle het ook al Kimmy se juwele, wat in die kluis toegesluit was, gevat. Van die kinders se klere is ook gesteel. Dit was hierdie voorval wat Kimmy en haar dogter gedwing het om by haar ouers se huis te gaan bly.

When most people think of a dietitian, the fi rst thing that comes to mind is that foul word diet.

Dietetics, explains Marga von Rauenstein, entails far more, however, than telling people what to eat or making fat people thin. She is an expe-rienced dietitian with a practice that she recently opened here in Louis Trichardt.

Marga qualifi ed as dietitian

at the University of Pretoria, completing her four-year de-gree in 2004 and her Zuma year thereafter. Since 2006, she has been managing her own practice in Edenvale, until she moved with her family to Louis Trichardt at the beginning of the year. She is also registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPC-SA), as well as the Association for Dietetics in South Africa

(ADSA).“Dietetics is a science, based

on the many physiological and psychological factors in people’s lives, that endeavours to teach them to live a healthy and nutritious lifestyle,” Marga explained. She approaches ev-ery patient from a holistic point of view to ensure that specifi c health problems are assessed. “My fi rst goal is to ensure that patients think healthy before they approach a healthy eating plan.” This helps to identify areas in the patient’s life – eat-ing, sleeping or activity - that are needed for healthier habits.

A patient is assessed by decoding intricate scientific and nutritional information - sometimes by means of DNA analysis. A DNA test can iden-tify high-risk diseases such as cancer and diabetes that can be avoided by following an individualised plan. A lifestyle plan can also help with low en-ergy levels, fl uctuating weight, digestive discomfort, irritable bowel syndrome, allergies and sports nutrition.

Sy sê daar is ‘n sterk vermoede dat die aanvalle toegeskryf kan word aan een groep boosdoeners, nadat werkers die spore gevolg het. Noodgedwonge is albei gesinne se alarmstelsels ook herstel en opgeskerp na die aanvalle.

Ongelukkig het dit nie die booswigte afgeskrik nie. Wat Vrydagaand se aanval betref, het hulle nog nie eens klaar geëet nie, toe ontvang hulle ‘n oproep dat die alarm by die plaashuis geaktiveer is - hierdie keer in haar ouers se huis.

Freddie en sy seun het deurgejaag plaas toe om te gaan ondersoek instel, en glo die rowers op heterdaad betrap. Al wat Kimmy kon bevestig teen druktyd was dat die rowers, vier mans, opgeneem is op die kamerastelsel en dat een doodgeskiet is. Die Makhado polisie ondersoek die voorval, saam met die ander drie voorvalle. “Ons is bewus van die voorval, en het gevind dat die verdagte ‘n buitelander is wat nie ‘n profi el het nie,” het die bevelvoerder van die plaaslike polisiestasie, kol. Francois Ramovha, dié week in ‘n persverklaring gesê.

Teen druktyd kon geen arrestasies bevestig word nie en intussen leef Kimmy en haar familie steeds in vrees vir wanneer die volgende inbraak of aanval gaan plaasvind.

‘n Man van Louis Trichardt is swaar gestraf omdat hy kaal uitgetrek het by ‘n bekende restaurant in die dorp.

Die 40-jarige Allan Guthrie het verlede Donder-dag in die Louis Trichardt Distrikshof verskyn op ‘n klag van openbare onsedelikheid. Hy het op 28 Maart vanjaar al sy klere laat waai terwyl hy saam met vriende gekuier het by Die Grasdak Restaurant en Gastehuis.

Hy is deur die Makhado Polisie gearresteer toe hy nie gehoor gegee het aan die eienaar van die Grasdak, me. Annette du Preez, se versoek om sy klere weer aan te trek nie. Die polisie se hulp is ingeroep, nadat Du Preez Guthrie met ‘n skokstok (taser) bygekom het.

Guthrie het skuldig gepleit en in sy pleitverduide-liking erken dat hy dié betrokke aand te diep in die bottel gekyk het. Hy en nog ‘n paar ander vriende was by die Grasdak gewees as deel van ‘n ramparty-tjie. Volgens inligting verskaf aan die koerant was daar die betrokke aand ook ‘n groep vrouens wat ‘n henpartytjie gehad het by die Grasdak. Guthrie het glo sy klere uitgetrek om ‘n ontkleedans vir die vroue uit te voer. Sy prokureur het gesê Guhtrie het opregte berou getoon vir sy dade, en het vir ‘n opgeskorte vonnis gevra.

Die staatsaanklaer, Tshepo Ndzobi, het egter gesê dat Guthrie se aksies die aand getoon het dat hy geen maniere het nie. “Daar was ander vroue dié aand ook in die kroeg gewees, en hy het geen ag daarop geslaan nie,” het Ndzobi gesê. Sy het verder gesê dat Guthrie nie daaraan gedink het dat sy aksies skade aan Du Preez se besigheid kon doen nie, en gevra dat Guhtrie direkte tronkstraf opgelê moet word. “Die klag teen hom is baie ernstig ... hy moet gevangenisstraf opgelê word sodat hy in die tronk kan leer om sy broek opgezip te hou.”

Landdros Marcelle Pieterse het Guthrie se pleit aanvaar en tong in die kies opgemerk dat sy gedog het sy al alles in die lewe gesien het. “Die hof hoop

net nie dit is ‘n gewoonte van u, as u drink, dat u ontaard in hierdie leeuvel-tiertertdanser nie,” het Pieterse gesê.

“Dis onaanvaarbaar vir enige or-dentlike mens wat na ‘n restaurant toe wil gaan ... want baie mense sal sê ‘julle moet Grasdak vermy’... mense gee aan ‘n plek ‘n slegte naam ... en u val nou ook in daardie kategorie om só op te tree in die aansig van eerlike, opregte mense,” het Pieterse gesê.

Pieterse het ook gesê Guthrie se ge-drag was laakbaar omdat dit aanleid-ing gegee het tot ‘n aanrandingsaak.

‘n Vriend, Christoffel Wolvaardt, wat tussenbeide getree het toe Du Preez vir Guthrie gevra het om sy klere aan te trek, het na bewering Du Preez se duim gebreek. Wolvaardt sal in Augustus op dié klagte in die hof verskyn. Pieterse het Guthrie gevonnis tot ‘n boete van R8 000 of direkte gevangenisstraf van ses maan-de. Hy is ook ‘n verdere ses maande tronkstraf opgelê wat vir ‘n tydperk van vyf jaar opgeskort is.

“Die bal is nou in jou hande ... trap maar fyn,” het Pieterse gesê.

Several of the 65 passengers on a bus travelling from Louis Trichardt to the Madombidzha area sustained injuries when the bus crashed into other vehicles and eventually ended up next to a fence.

The injured were rushed to the Louis Trichardt Memorial hospital, but most of them were dis-charged after being treated for bruises and scratches.

According to one of the passengers, Ms Takalani Makhitha from Madombidzha, com-muters complained to the driver, saying that the bus was overloaded. The driver apparently ignored their complaints and kept on driving. As far as the accident is concerned, she only remembers that “there was a huge cloud of dust and we could not even see what was happening. I strongly believe that we were saved by the grace of God.”

She suffered minor injuries to her head and a fractured left foot. “This is the most horrible experience of my life,” she added.

Another eyewitness, Ms Julia Musethla, explained that the bus first hit a car and then sped out of control into a bakkie.

“When we saw the bus hitting a car at high speed, we screamed and, as if that was not enough, the bus also came straight to a (anoth-er) car and suddenly collided with the bakkie,” she said.

The driver of the bakkie, Mr Kassie de Lange, said that he was turning into his farm at Belkado when the accident occurred. He said that he didn’t know what had happened, because the bus came from behind, driving in the same direction as they did.

According to Const Irene Radzilani from the local SAPS, the accident occurred after the bus driver lost control and hit a bakkie that was coming from the same direction. “We have opened a case of reckless and negligent driving against the driver. Further charges may be brought against him, pending the outcome of police investigations,” she said.

The continuous spate of fatal road accidents in the region is fast becoming a major concern. Last Wednesday, seven people died when a taxi collided with a truck at Musina and a further 11 people were admitted to hospital.

In what is believed to be one of the most grue-some killings in Vhembe, two innocent children, aged five and three years, were mercilessly beaten to death at Makonde.

The two children, Thinawanga Munyai (5) and her little brother Justice Thagwana (3), were bludgeoned to death with a knobkierie. Thohoyan-dou police spokesperson Major Mashudu Malelo confirmed that they are still searching for Prince Budeli-Vele (45), who is suspected of killing the children. The suspect is said to be the father of the three-year-old Justice.

Circumstances surrounding the gruesome inci-dent are still vague and the victims’ mother is still receiving counselling at the local trauma centre. The rumour going around in the village is that Budeli-Vele, who works in Gauteng, came back home and allegedly found the mother of the two with another man. The suspect, who is not a resident of Makonde, but from Nzhelele-Milaboni, is said to have vented his anger on the innocent children. He is alleged to have run away and has not been located so far.

The incident has left stakeholders, the traditional leadership and organizations in a state of insecurity as people fear that the man might come and do more harm in the community.

According to the next-door neighbour, Ms Azwitamisi Madzivhela, it was between 00:30 and 01:00 when the children’s mother, Ms Ndidzulafhi Thagwana, asked her assistance to rescue the chil-dren “because Budeli-Vele wants to kill them.” She added that the mother of the two was on her way to meet the police at the main road to report the threat against her children.

“When I reached the house, I found the children, Thinawanga and Justice, lying next to each other, covered with a blanket. As I tried to wake them, they were not responding. It was only when I switched on the light from my phone that I realized that the children were dead and they were covered in blood. I then called another neighbour, Dzivhu-luwani Rantsana, who came and also confirmed that the children were dead,” explained Madzivhela.

The children’s aunt, Ms Joyce Netshiavha, said that tension had been simmering between the two.

She further indicated that she had received a call in the early hours of Wednesday from one of the relatives, informing her of the incident. “I stay at another part of the village, but I rushed to the scene and what I saw there was shocking. There was blood everywhere in the room.” She added that the tiny bodies were wrapped in a blanket “as if nothing had happened to them.”

The local Sanco chairperson, Ms Khwatheleni Rambuda, said that they were living in fear as the suspect had not been arrested so far. “We hope the police will do their job and bring the perpetrator to book,” she said.

The senior local traditional leader, Thovhele Vho-Tshilidzi Edward Ravhura, who came to offer his condolences to the family, said he was very disturbed by the incident. “We are worried that people are not sharing their problems with others and they end up committing crimes. There are many structures that are meant to assist people with prob-lems and it is done free of charge. There are elders who are always ready to assist and people should confide in them for an amicable solution,” he said.

Ravhura further indicated that he was worried that the man might pose a further danger as he had not been arrested as yet. “We are making an appeal for the community to be calm and give the law a chance. Those who might come across the suspect should report him to the police and not take the law into their own hands.”

Mr Tshilidzi Masikhwa, a sector manager at the Thohoyandou Victim Empowerment Programme, said they were worried about the rising number of such incidents in the community. “We are available all the time to assist those with problems but people seem not to take us seriously. We cannot allow the loss of life by men who are supposed to care for women and children. We are planning to intensify our programmes and have dialogues with men in this area,” he said.

The two were buried in a joint funeral on Tuesday.

Mr Wiebe de Jong from the Netherlands, who is currently conducting his doctoral research into the symbolism of muti murders here in the Vhembe District, shared his insights into the infamous Freddy Tshikhudo “Hand Case”.

Louis Trichardt’s infamous “Hand Case” drew to a close on 2 July with the sentencing of Freddy Azwitamisi Tshikhudo (40) to life imprisonment, as reported upon in last week’s Zoutpansberger.

The newspaper is currently hosting a guest from the Netherlands, Mr Wiebe de Jong, who is conducting his doctoral research into the symbolism of muti murders here in the Vhembe District. Regarding the Tshikhudo case, De Jong shared his insights into the case, which has been widely regarded as a muti murder.

Over the last two years, the Zout-pansberger ran several articles about the ritual murder conducted by Freddy Tshikhudo. In 2013, he was seized in an Indian shop while waving around a human arm. After being arrested, he led the police to some nearby bushes and showed them the corpse to whom the arm belonged.

“Up to now, the authorities main-tain that Tshikhudo committed a ritual murder because the victim missed

some body parts (though one could not say whether these had been cut off or taken away by animals; except for the arm). It does not, however, display the features of a typical ritual murder,” said De Jong.

First of all, he explained, Tshikhu-do acted on his own, while ritual mur-ders are usually planned way ahead by a group of people. “The archives of the Thohoyandou High Court contain quite a lot of court cases in which a group of usually three to four men ambush a chosen person and strip the victim of particular body parts. Usual-ly, one of the group is the instigator, who wants to improve his position with medicine made of human mate-rial, and he carefully selects people around him to seize the victim,” he said, adding that Tshikhudo never sought the help of others, let alone a traditional healer to produce muti.

Secondly, De Jong said, ritual murder cases are characterized by the fact that body parts are cut off while the victim is still alive. “Some anthro-

pologists have also noted that the screams of the victim would supposedly alert the ancestors, while others argue that a ‘fresh’ body part contains more medicinal power,” said De Jong. In Tshikhudo’s case, however, he testified that he had cut off his victim’s arm more than a week after she had passed away. “That is rather late for it to be classified as a ritual murder,” said De Jong.

De Jong said that to find a more acceptable mo-tive for the murder, one should rather try to shed light on the relationship between Tshikhudo and his victim. According to Tshikhudo’s testimony, they had had a secret relationship, which the de-ceased wanted to end. “Moreover, she allegedly unmasked Tshikhudo’s adulterous relationship when she phoned his wife. As such, it might be possible that the motive was not a ritual murder, but one of revenge. Anthropologists have shown that the dishonour felt by an abandoned lover can be so fierce that the only way to ‘remove and cleanse its stains is by shedding blood’. By cutting off particular body parts such as the victim’s private parts, as Tshikhudo had allegedly done, ultimate vindication is found, through a literal amputation of one’s honour and dignity,” said De Jong

When studying the practice of ritual murders, De Jong said, attention should not only be paid to the fact that body parts are missing. “Rather, we should look for connections between the ones involved and the context in which it happened. If you perceive it from that perspective, Tshikhudo’s murder looks more like a crime of passion,” said De Jong.

The question remains why Tshikhudo decided to cut off the victim’s arm after her death. “A simple answer could be that Tshikhudo is aware of the illicit trade in body parts and thought that he was able to sell it for a good price. But that did not seem to be the initial motive as it was done a week after, but rather a choice to make quick money. A wrong decision, as it proved to be, because that started the court case for which he has now been sentenced to life imprisonment,” said De Jong.

The Soutpansberg Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its prestigious annual gala evening once again, this time on Saturday, 19 September.

As in previous years, the gala evening will co-incide with the chamber’s annual Business Person of the Year Award ceremony. Apart from this sought-after award, awards will also be given in several other categories. At present, the chamber is looking for nominees for these awards and has invited the public to nominate suitable candidates.

The categories and their criteria are:* Local Business Person of the Year: This must

be a person of good standing and high moral princi-ple, one who is well respected by all his/her peers;

* Entrepreneur of the Year: Relatively new business, non-franchise, should involve a new idea, new concept, new product or service;

* Corporate Manager of the Year: This person must be heading a corporate institution or division within a corporate company;

* Newsmaker of the Year: A person who lives in and actively promotes Limpopo, Vhembe region;

* Corporate Company of the Year: A local and well-respected business of good standing. Nomi-nations may include franchises; and

* Tourism Salt Shaker of the Year: The tourism operator and personality that contributed the most to developing and promoting tourism in our area.

Apart from the above award, certificates will also be handed out. These merit certificates are:

* Merit Certificate for outstanding Service to the Community: This is an open category where nominations may include any member living and working in our community who distinguished themselves in rendering services of exceptional standard to the benefit of all members of our community;

* Outstanding Contribution in Education Cer-tificate: Nominees in this discipline must have excelled beyond the call of duty in the uplifting of learners. This must not necessarily be linked to the specific educational discipline of the performer but more to actions leading to the general stimulation and creation of a performance-enhancing environ-ment for learners. The objective here will be the reversing of the generally negative educational environment in which learners and teachers find themselves today.

* Outstanding Health Service Contribution Certificate: That individual who performed beyond the normal call of duty in securing and rendering selfless services in our community within the medical discipline and outside the comfort of his or her normal practice environment;

* Public Official of the Year Certificate: That public official who, in more way than one, proved that public servants can and still do render effective and friendly services to the public. ; and

* Secretary/Receptionist of the Year Certificate: This person will have made the right impression on the client, rather than her office manager/boss. Nominations awaited for top business people

Hundreds of mourners from all over the region gathered at the Levubu Christelike Gemeente on Friday to bid farewell to a respected resi-dent ot the area, Ms Regina Swart. She was buried at the Levubu cemetery.

Swart (46) of Shayandima, who worked at NTK-Venda at Muledane, will be remembered for her golden heart and gen-erosity, having helped many needy families and people.

During the event, it was re-ported that she committed her entire life to serving and caring for the poor and disadvantaged. At one time she had 13 black children in her house in Shayan-dima, whom she fed and took care of their schooling.

Her generosity and golden

heart endeared her to the local community, of which she and her husband had become part. In the region she was known as the Mother of the Nation. During the 21st birthday party of two of their adopted children, Takkies and Serious, the family shocked all when they bought a car for Takkies and a top-of-the-range laptop for Serious as their birthday gifts.

Among the speakers were ANC stalwart Dr Tshenuwani Farisani. He said that he came to know the family when he went to their shop to buy farm-ing tools.

“I was attracted by the way they treated people and clients and immediately our friendship blossomed. I am just sad that she passed on before coming to my

small farm as we had arranged,” he said.

Pastor Craig Whitcomb, who conducted the sermon, told the family not to despair like people who do not know God.

One of the deceased’s chil-dren, Takkies, said the death of their mother had left a void in their hearts. “She treated us like her own blood children and we will always miss her warmth and caring,” he said.

The deceased’s husband, Gerhard Swart, said he was consoled by the fact that there was no pain for her anymore as she was with the Lord.

“No one can replace her presence and we will always remember her for her smile and warmth and love for all people. We will miss her a lot,” he said.

Hardly a week after the horrific accident in Musina that killed seven passengers, Vhembe experienced another weekend marred by road deaths.

Two people died after the driver of a vehicle they were travelling in with others lost control and the vehicle capsized. The accident involved soccer players who were coming from a tournament at the Makwarela Stadium and happened next to the Tshikevha School at around 16:00 on Saturday.

Tshikhudini at about 19:20 on Sunday.In the first incident, a day of fun for 20 youth

from Tshakhuma ended tragically when the bakkie they were travelling in capsized at a sharp, steep bend, killing two young men and injuring many others in its wake. The bakkie was packed with soccer players. The players are said to have taken part in a soccer tournament at the Makwarela Stadium earlier.

The driver of the bakkie allegedly ran away after the accident. The road between Thohoyandou Sta-dium and Tshikevha School was closed for hours while scene experts, firefighters and traffic officials combed the scene for clues. Even though the scene was cordoned off, a large group of onlookers gath-ered and the police had to battle to keep them at bay.

The driver was later located by residents, al-legedly hiding at one of the local schools, and was handed over to the police.

A woman who did not wish to be named said their team, Tshakhuma RO, was knocked out earlier on in the day, but they decided to have fun watching other games. “It was around 16:00 when we decided to leave, but we could not locate the driver of the taxi that had ferried us to the stadium. That was when we saw this local guy and begged him for a lift. To tell you the truth, he refused, saying that we were too many as we were around 20. People forced themselves into the bakkie and as it was about to move away, I received a call from my friend, who said I should wait for him. Hardly five minutes after the bakkie had left, I heard the sad news that it had been involved in an accident.”

Thohoyandou police spokesperson Major Mashudu Malelo confirmed both incidents and said they had opened culpable homicide dockets.

He said they had opened a drunken-driving dock-et in respect of the driver who ran away from the accident scene. “We are appealing to all motorists to be extra cautious when using the road,” he said.

The driver is taken away by the police to a waiting van. He was found hiding at a nearby school after running away from the scene of the accident.

The bodies of the dead are loaded into a van of the local forensic services.

The National Lotteries Com-mission (NLC) is calling on non-profit organisations, non-government organisations, public-benefit trusts and com-munities to apply for funding.

According to the NLC press release issued on Tuesday, the Charities Distributing Agency will also make provision for educational facilities designed to enhance literacy through early childhood education, adult litera-cy, vocational training and men-toring for skills development that includes disabled persons. This is the second of three annual calls that will be made to the public to apply for funding in the current financial year.

According to NLC commis-sioner Charlotte Mampane, the

NLC has set aside funds in line with stated sector allocations as prescribed by the National Lot-teries Act. While the NLC will in future implement proactive funding to qualifying beneficia-ries, Mampane says the NLC will continue to disburse funds primarily through open calls to the public, such as this one. “We are anticipating a positive response and we therefore urge organisations to submit their applications as early as possible,” said Mampane.

Mampane added, however, that they would like to stress that beneficiaries must still comply with set criteria in order to be considered for funding. “We would also like to take this op-portunity to reiterate the fact that

our recent change of status from National Lotteries Board to Na-tional Lotteries Commission will have no impact on our mandate to uplift communities through our grant-funding process. The application and adjudication pro-cess will also continue as before,” Mampane said.

Applications officially com-menced on 12 July for registered medium-sized organisations wishing to secure funding in excess of R500 000, while appli-cations for smaller organisations will open on 1 October 2015. “Eerstens gaan ‘n deel van elke donasie na 300 organisasies oral oor die land – dit sluit in skole, tehuise en organisasies wat omsien na die regte van persone met gestremdhede tot onderwys, behuising, opleiding, toeganklikheid en werkskepping,” het Andrea Vinassa, nasionale media koördineerder van Loslitdag in ‘n mediaverklaring gesê.

Die nasionale begunstigdes van die geld beslaan 12 nasionale organisasies wat die hele spektrum van gestremdhede dek.

Die projek behoort aan en word bestuur deur die Nasionale Raad vir Persone met Liggaamlike Gestremdheid in SA en word geborg deur die Edcongroep. Takke van die organisasie, oftewel verenigings vir persone met gestremdhede, werk in nege provinsies om om te sien na die behoeftes van mense op plaaslike vlak.

“Alle deelnemende organisasies is deur Loslitdag goedgekeur. Ondersteun gerus ‘n Loslitdagorgani-sasie in jou buurt. Vir ‘n lys in jou gebied of om jou organisasie te registreer, stuur ‘n epos aan [email protected] and [email protected],” het Vinassa uitgenooi.

Van die organisasies wat deur Loslitdag goedgekeur is, sluit in die Nasionale Raad vir Blindes wie se hoofkantoor in Pretoria is en koördineer 100 kleiner lidmate om dienste te

lewer aan gesiggestremdes. Die doel van die SA Federasie vir Geestesgesondheid is om gelyke dienste aan mense met intellektuele en psigiatriese gestremdhede te verskaf. QuadPara Vereniging van Suid-Afrika (QASA) streef op hulle beurt om rugmurgbese rings te verhoed en om die belange van mense met mobiliteitsgestremdhede op die hart te dra.

Die ander organisasie sluit in Outisme Suid Afri-ka (skep bewustheid rondom Outisme en help ouers van kinders met outisme met dienste en berading), Down-Sindroom Suid-Afrika (beywer hulle vir die regte tot waardigheid, onafhanklikheid en sekuriteit van persone met Down-sindroom en werk om hul lewens te verbeter), die Nasionale Raad vir Persone met Serebrale Gestremdheid (bevorder mediese, opvoedkundige, fasiliteite en sosiale dienste vir persone met serebrale gestremdheid sodat hulle ten volle onafhanklik kan lewe. Die organisasie werk ook in gemeenskappe op fisiese en wetlike hindernisse wat verhoed dat sulke persone aanvaar word deur die samelewing) en die Federasie vir

Dowes van SA (beywer hulle om op regeringsvlak die regte van een miljoen dowes in Suid Afrika te bevorder), die Suid-Afrikaanse Dowe Vereniging (verskaf dienste aan persone met gehoorgestremd-heid en beywer hulle om bewustheid rondom doofheid en gehoorgestremdheid te skep), die Nasionale Instituut vir Dowes in Worcester se NID Academy (gee onderrig in Suid Afrikaanse gebaretaal en verskaf ‘n verskeidenheid dienste aan persone met gehoorgestremdheid), Alzheimer’s Suid-Afrika (wie se fokus is op geheue screening, opleiding, bewustheid en rehabilitasie van persone met Alzheimersiekte) en die South African Disabil-ity Alliance (‘n alliansie van verskeie organisasies wat omsien aan die gemeenskap van persone met gestremdhede en is veral gemik op die sakewêreld).

Loslitdag vind vanjaar op Vrydag 4 September plaas met die tema Loslit Innie Lente. “Dis ‘n dag waarop ons vra dat almal in SA gemaklik, formeel of sommer net verspot sal aantrek wanneer hulle werk toe gaan en die amptelike Loslitdag-plakker sal dra,” het Vinassa gesê.

“Small” race makes big impactA small event made a very large impact on our local community this past week-end, as more than 110 cyclists participated in the fi rst ever Spar Levubu Classic Moun-tain Bike Race.

The past weekend’s race was hosted by the Levubu CVO Skool, and presented the perfect opportunity for cyclists to qualify for their Limpopo colours.

A sunny, clear day greeted participants from Polokwane, Tzaneen and even two celeb-rities from Stellenbosch. CP van Wyk and Christiaan Roos

led the 70km marathon race and fi nished in fi rst and second position in a time of 3:28:20.79 and 3:28:37.47 respectively. Louwrina Dando was the fi rst and only lady to take on the guys, and had a great race. She completed the race in a time of 4:44:01.69.

Kombo Bere was the overall winner of the 35km half-mar-athon race, fi nishing in a time of 1:35:35.14. He was fol-lowed by Lachlan Truesdale 1:37:29.15 in second and Paul Dando in third place in a time of 1:37:36.15.

Soretha Lubbe took top honours in the women’s

category, fi nishing in a time of 2:00:25.13. Almost a quarter of an hour behind her was Jernay Mcleod, who fi nished second in a time of 2:12:49.21 and Jana de la Port third in a time of 2:28:16.57.

In the 10km fun ride, Patrick Loami finished first overall in a time of 28:42.19. Jolene de Swardt was the first girl across the fi nish line a time of

28:43.69.Following the race the or-

ganisers thanked Ralda van Wyk, Richardt Lambert and Letitia le Grange for taking photographs during the event as well as all the sponsors, stakeholders, marshals and Jo-han van Dijkhorst, who was the race commissaire, and Stanley Thompson, who acted as race announcer.

Somebody thought that Anton Lombard needed a lot of bananas after he fi nished the Spar Levubu MBT Classic race this past weekend. Anton had never really cycled before but took on the 35km half-marathon challenge and fi nished in a time of 3:33:54.89.

Nadat Jesus gekruisig is, is die evan-gelie aan die heidene verkondig, naamlik ek en jy. Daarom moet ons baie dankbaar wees dat ons gered is deur die bloed van Jesus Christus.

Ook ons moet ‘n honger en dors na geregtigheid hê. (Lees Matt.5:6.)

Ons word ook deur God geeste-lik gevoed deur Sy Woord te lees en wanneer ons na boodskappe luister, so voed God ons deur die werking van die Heilige Gees.

wekkers het ... Buitendien, daai ou wat die eerste rondte tequila gekoop het, is nogal oulik! Dinge het net begin smeul tussen ons,” kla Kathy.

Daisy sug. “Daai oulike ou is ‘n oulike getróúde ou, Kathy. Sy vriend het my vertel hoe kwaai sy vrou is! Ek het jou gered. Buitendien, g’n mens se hongerte kan gestil word met twee stukkies suurlemoen nie; ek is steeds rasend honger! Jy moet nog die eerste restaurant kies, dan gaan eet ons ‘n voorgereg daar.”

‘n Uur later is hulle nog vasgevang in ver-keers knope. Daisy praat in ‘n kreatiewe taal waarvan Kathy nog nie die gelyke gehoor het nie.

Louis Trichardt se plaaslike gholfspelers moes hierdie jaar tevrede wees met ‘n algehele tweedeplek in die Hanglip 54-toernooi en dié spogtrofee het sy staanplek vir die volgende jaar verder suid moes vind.

Leon Smit, ‘n Pretorianer, het vanjaar dié gesogte trofee opgeraap tydens die 22ste Hanglip Gholftoernooi van die Soutpansberg Gholfklub wat vanaf Donderdag (9de) tot Saterdag (11de) op Louis Trichardt beslis is. Hy het tydens die drie dae se kompetisies 115 individuele Stableford-punte aangeteken om ‘n eersteplek te verseker.

Soos in die verlede het die toernooi weer ‘n vol veld spelers gelok van regoor die land. Bykans die helfte van die veld het bestaan uit besoekers van onder andere Pretoria, Klerksdorp en Lydenburg.

Spelers neem elke dag in spanverband aan die kompetisie deel, maar elkeen se individuele Stableford-telling word gebruik om ‘n algehele wenner ná die derde dag te bepaal.

Vanjaar het die weer en al die ander faktore mooi saamgespeel en spelers van oraloor was vol lof vir die wyse waarop die toernooi georganiseer is. Die klub se president, mnr. Arie Steyn, was ook in sy noppies met die groei wat die toernooi

getoon het. Hy sê daar was vanjaar meer besoe-kers wat deelgeneem het, wat wys dat die toernooi gewild is.

Wat die individuele uitslae betref, was Johan Fouché van Louis Trichardt algeheel tweede met 109 punte. Bruce du Toit en André Stipec deel die derdeplek met ‘n totaal van 108 punte.

Wat die daaglikse kompetisies betref, word die eerste dag se spel gewen deur Leon Smit met 39 punte, gevolg deur André Stipec tweede met 38 punte en Johan Coetzer en Tinus Pretorius wat die derdeplek deel met 37 punte. Dag twee se spel word gewen deur Johan Fouché met 41 punte, gevolg deur Bruce du Toit tweede met 40 punte en Llewellyn Prenzler derde met 39 punte.

Saterdag, die derde dag, se spel is gewen deur Marnus Erasmus met 46 punte (uittel). Tweede was Herman Adendorff met 46 punte, ook op ‘n uittel, en Anrich Leeb en Bruce du Toit gesament-lik in die derdeplek met 45 punte.

Die voledige uitslae van al drie dae se spel was teen druktyd nie beskikbaar nie, aangesien daar die naweek by die klub se klubhuis ingebreek is en die rekenaar waarop die uitslae gestoor was, onder meer gesteel is.

Die algehele wenners van die Hanglip 54-toernooi, afgeneem saam met die Soutpansberg Gholfklub se klubkaptein, Lappies Labuschagne. Van links na regs staan Lappies, Leon Smit, Johan Fouché en André Stipec. Bruce du Toit, wat die derdeplek deel met André, was afwesig tydens die neem van die foto.

Pretorianer wen Hanglip

Die Soutpansberg Posduifklub het die afgelope naweek weer kragte gemeet vanaf Parys.

Die jaaroudwedvlug word gewen deur Hans Marx, nadat sy wen-duif die 492 km afstand voltooi met ‘n spoed van 1128.18 meter per minuut. Hy was ook 15de, 16de en 19de. Elize Tim & Tiny was 2de, 5de, 6de, 7de en 10de, Ysterberg Hokke 3de, 9de, 13de, 14de en 17de, Koos Gerber 4de en 18de en Marx Hokke 8ste, 11de en 12de.

In die opewed vlug is dit Elize, Tim & Tiny wat met die louere weg-stap, nadat hul wenduif die afstand voltooi met ‘n spoed van 1108.19 meter per minuut. Hulle was ook 2de, 3de, 4de en 5de. Ysterberg Hok-ke was 6de, 10de, 11de, 13de en 15de, Koos Gerber 7de en 17de, Marx Hokke 8ste, 9de, 12de, 14de en 16de en Hans Marx 18de, 19de en 20ste.

Eerskomende naweek vlieg die klub vanaf Virginia. Die jaaroud-wedvlug sal ook dien as jaaroud-nasionale wedvlug.

Duiwenuus

Duiweboere meet kragte vanaf ParysOn Wednesday, the first ever Schools Cycling Training and Development Camp commenced here in the Soutpansberg, with their base camp stationed at the Schoemansdal Training Centre. Young cyclists’ skills will be improved during the camp that will end this Saturday. Bo: Dit was verlede naweek weer tyd vir die jaarlikse “Vark van die Noorde” kompetisie tussen die Louis Trichardt Rolbalklub en LMB Makhado. Louis Trichardt het as wenners uit die stryd getree en is nou amptelik die wen “Varke”. WEEK 6 - PARYS Die Hangklip Posduif Klub se twee wedvlugte het die afgelope naweek vanaf Parys plaasgevind oor ‘n af-stand van 490km.

In 6a, ‘n Jongduif Wedvlug, klok Rainbow Lofts van Este Dreyer weereens 1ste met Dreyer Lofts 2de en Mimosa Hokke van die Bezuidenhoud familie 3de

en 4de. In 6b, ‘n Ope wedvlug klok Gerhard Bezuiden-

hout 1ste, 3de en 4de met Dreyer Lofts wat weer die 2de plek inpalm.

Hierdie vier seuns van die Soutpansberg (van links na regs), Jan-Karel Limbach (Hoërskool Eric Louw), TG Fourie (Hoërskool Louis Trichardt), Chris van Wyk (Hoërskool Pietersburg) en Ali Sefole (Hoërskool Louis Trichardt), het as deel van die Limpopo O/16A-span vir die provinsie uitgedraf tydens die Grant Khomo Rugbyweek in Oudtshoorn vanaf 6 tot 9 Julie. Die span het die Maandag teen Griekwas platteland gespeel en wen die wedstryd 50-17. Dinsdag speel die span teen die Luiperds en wen 38-19. Donderdag speel die span teen die tuis-unie SWD en wen die harde wedstryd 30-17. “So maak die Limpopo Blou Bulle se provinsiale rugbyspan geskiedenis om die eerste provinsiale span te wees wat ‘n Grant Khomo-toernooi onoorwonne afsluit. Ons is baie trots op hulle, want hulle het hul skitterend van hulle taak gekwyt,” het afrigter Johan Minnie (Hoërskool Louis Trichardt) gesê.
