‘n Bekende inwoner van Makhado (Louis Trichardt) is in die hoësor-geenheid van ‘n Middelburgse hospitaal opgeneem, nadat hy in ‘n ernstige motorfi etsongeluk be-trokke was.

Mnr. Dennis Smit het erge kop-beserings opgedoen toe ‘n aan-komende voertuig tromp-op in sy splinternuwe BMW-motorfiets vasgejaag het. Die ongeluk het Maan-dag gebeur op die pad tussen Sabie en Middelburg in Mpumalanga. Die ander voertuig het, na wat verneem word, vir ‘n slaggat uitgeswaai en in Dennis se baan ingery op ‘n blinde draai. Dennis se vrou, Jana, het dade-lik deurgejaag om by hom te wees in die hospitaal. Sy het Dinsdag vanuit Middelburg vertel dat dit onder om-

standighede goed gaan met haar man. “Die polisie het gesê daar was nie ‘n ander alternatief vir Dennis nie, hy kon nie uitswaai vir die aankomende kar nie,” het Jana gesê.Dennis se hoofbeserings het veroorsaak dat hy Maandagaand in ‘n ligte koma was. Hy het Dinsdag weer bygekom en het so ‘n klein bietjie begin kommu-nikeer. “Alles is nog bietjie deurme-kaar. Sy regteroog wil byvoorbeeld nie toemaak nie, maar ons sal nog sien hoe lyk dinge bietjie later,” het Jana gesê. Verder het Dennis baie skrape opgedoen. Wonderbaarlik, het Jana vertel, het hy geen bene gebreek nie, maar sy valhelm en oorpak het ver-skriklik gelyk. Sy motorfi ets is reeds geskrap. Hy het die motorfi ets maar twee weke gehad.

Die Zoutpansberger het verlede week die kans gehad om ‘n ondersoekspan te volg en te kyk hoe hulle te werk gaan om bewysstukke uit ‘n renosterkarkas te haal.

Dié span ondersoek die dood van ‘n

witrenosterkoei wat verlede Maandag op die Nwanedi Natuurreservaat in die Tshipise-omgewing doodgeskiet is vir haar horings. Haar maand-oue kalfie is deur die stropers agtergelaat om te vrek. Die kalfi e word tans versorg by The Rhino Orphanage naby Mokopane (sien berig elders).

Met die hulp van ‘n metaalverklikker is daar vinnig agtergekom dat daar nog ‘n koeël in die karkas van die koei was. Voor ‘n staatsveearts egter met die nadoodse ondersoek kon begin, is die hele misdaadtoneel eers deeglik gefo-tografeer.

Die twee vennote, Fanus Coet zee en Fanie Otto, het gesamentlik by die 60 jaar se ondervinding van die installering en instandhouding van ‘n verskeidenheid kommunikasiestelsels.

Vanuit die plaaslike kantoor wat reeds in bedryf is, kan dié

Nuwe sentrum leer kinders om te leerDeur Isabel Venter

Die nuut-geopende Mas-ter Minds Leersentrum in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) se uitsluitlike doel is om kinders te leer om te leer.

Dié sentrum, wat sowat twee maande gelede sy deure oopgemaak het, bied ook gemoedsrus vir mammas. Hulle kan kinders met ‘n geruste hart afl aai by die sentrum met die wete dat hulle in ‘n veilige omgewing is waar hulle hul huiswerk kan klaarmaak en hulle kennis uitgebrei kan word.

Master Minds Leersentrum word bedryf deur mev. Marna Wepener.

Marna het reeds voorheen ondervinding met laerskoolkinders. Sy het vir vier jaar by Laerskool Louis Trichardt indiensopleiding gehad. Geduren

de daardie tydperk was sy ook by die skool se naskoolsentrum betrokke gewees. Kinders is haar passie.

“Die Master Mindsprogram wat ons volg is nie ‘n vinnige oplossing nie. Dit verg toewyding van die ouer en die kind,” verduidelik Marna.

Die kurrikulum wat Master Minds volg, help onder andere met leesvordering en om die agterstand wat ‘n kind in skryf en wiskunde het in te haal. “Dit help dus nie as ‘n ma haar kind kort voor ‘n eksamen bring nie,” sê Marna.

Die sentrum, wat geleë is in Tshirululunistraat 21, is oop van Maandae tot Donderdae tussen 13:30 en 17:00. Master Minds is spesifi ek gemik op kinders vanaf Graad 1 tot Graad 7.

Kerkjeug maak ‘n verskilDie NG Kerk Soutpansberg se Jeug het einde verlede maand ‘n bietjie van hul vakansietyd opsy gesit en gaan help om die Matchawhawe Kerk (in die Siloam-omgewing) te gaan opknap.

Onder leiding van ds. Rudolph Botha het die jongklomp en ‘n paar ouers vanaf 24 tot 26 Junie daagliks na die kerkterrein gery om te help met opknappingswerk. Dié uitreikaksie het deelgevorm van die gemeente en hul jongklomp se visie om gestalte te gee aan hul plig as Christene om uit te reik na hul medemens.

En daar was baie werk … Ondermeer is die kerk se dak, wat soos ‘n sterrehemel gelyk het van die gate, herstel. Alle vensterrame is ook met roesweerder geverf, terwyl al die sydeure van die kerkgebou vervang is. Trappies is ook by die sydeure gebou, asook ‘n oprit vir mense in rolstoele. Die kansel is ook opgeknap deur dit met

nuwe kunsleer oor te trek en ‘n groot houtkruis as fokuspunt is agter die kansel gebou en opgerig. Buite om die kerkgebou is daar ook skoongemaak. Dit het behels die afbreek van ‘n ou, onooglike murasie (die vorige kerkgebou) op die kerkterrein. Die beplanning is dat van die stene wat vanuit die ou murasie herwin is, heraangewend sal word vir die bou van ordentlike buite toilette by die kerk in ‘n latere stadium. Nog ‘n projek waaraan daar later aandag gegee sal word, is om die kerkgebou se vloer te teel.

Die herstelwerk is moontlik gemaak deur skenkings vanuit die gemeente en gemeenskap. Van die boumateriaal en –gereedskap is ook uit eie fondse aangekoop. Die jongklomp het hul opregte dank uitgespreek teenoor almal wat ‘n bydrae gelewer het, met spesiale dank aan die “Witvlag Tannies” wat hulle so lekker bederf het met eetgoed.

A former mayor of the Makhado Municipality, Mr Brighton Tlakula, passed away at the Me-di-clinic in Polokwane on Sunday evening, after battling with diabetes for some time.

Tlakula became the mayor for the Makhado Municipality on 5 December 2000 and was at the forefront of the team campaigning for the name change

of Louis Trichardt t o M a k h a d o .

and resigned at a later stage.Makhado Municipality’s mayor, Cllr David

Mutavhatsindi, said that the death of the 72yearold Mr Tlakula had saddened the municipality and the community at large. He then comforted the family by using the expression “madi a tevhuwa o tevhuwa”, which means that it is of no use to weep for situations or incidents that cannot be reversed or changed. “We take comfort in the good work and services which this great son of the soil had done for people within the area of the Makhado Municipality,” Mutavatsindi said mournfully. “I remember him as a jovial man and a workaholic, who served the ANC with dedication and faithfulness. How can we forget his light jokes?” All the visitors, among

them municipal manager Isaac Mutshinyali, Cllr Tebogo Mamorobela, Cllr Lindiwe Mogale, municipal spokesperson Louis Bobodi and Cllr Dzawele Ratshikuni, nodded at Mutavhatsindi’s words.

Tlakula’s family expressed their gratitude to the municipality after the visit. They said that they appreciated the fact that the municipality had demonstrated that the relationship still existed between the family and the municipality, even when Tlakula had long left the municipality. “My father was a dedicated member of the ANC and he always reminded me to stay focused as a foot soldier,”

said the deceased’s son, Languta Tlakula.Tlakula will be laid to rest on Satur

day at 07:00. The funeral service will be held at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of SA in Elim.

‘n Onderneming op Vivo het die mees onlangse slagoffer geword van diewe wat hul geldkluis opgeblaas het.

Maandagoggend is die Vivo Vleismark se personeel begroet met ‘n kluis wat stukkend geskiet is en ‘n gapende gat in die winkel se dak. Buiten duisende rande wat vermis was, is daar ook heelwat van die slaghuis se voorraad gesteel.

“Hulle het baie biltong gevat,” het die medeeienaar van

die slaghuis, mnr. Japie van der Goot, Dinsdag gesê.

By nadere ondersoek het dit aan die lig gekom dat die diewe die gat in die dak gesny het en daardeur geklim het. Hierna het hulle die alarmstelsel se sensor fl enters geslaan, waarna hulle die kluis opgeblaas het.

Provinsiale polisiewoordvoer der lt. kol. Ronel Otto het die voorval bevestig en gesê dat die polisie besig is om ondersoek in te stel. Geen

arrestasies is nog teen druktyd gemaak nie. Hierdie inbraak kom sowat twee maande nadat ‘n bende van 10 vermeende OTM en kluisbommers deur die Louis Trichardt Landdroshof vrygelaat is. Dié mans is daarvan verdink dat hulle verantwoordelik was vir die vlaag brandkluisinbrake in Makhado (Louis Trichardt). Hulle saak is van die hofrol geskrap, omdat die saak toe alreeds vir vyf maande gesloer het.

Die polisie se forensiese deskundiges het hierna die veearts bygestaan terwyl hy die koeël uit die koei se karkas gehaal het. Vanweë ‘n enkele bladskoot het die koeël deur die koei se ribbekas getrek en naby haar hart vasgesit.

‘n Koeël van ‘n .458jaggeweer is uitgehaal. “Mens kan amper die punt gebruik om te herlaai, in so ‘n goeie toestand is hy,” het een van die ondersoekspan se lede gesê. Vir die span is dit goeie nuus, want dit beteken dat die koeël dalk maklik met die wapen, indien dit gevind word, sal ooreenstem. DNSmonsters sal aangeteken word in die nasionale renoster DNSdatabasis wat by Onderstepoort gehou word. Sodoende

kan polisie dalk ander bewysstukke, soos ‘n byl, positief verbind met ‘n dooie renoster, of selfs as daar op renosterhorings beslag gelê word, kan dit ook verbind word met ‘n spesifi eke renoster.

Teen druktyd was die polisie in Musina nog besig om die saak te ondersoek en is geen arrestasies gemaak nie.

Trendler het gesê dat as dit nie vir Pemba se weldoeners se vinnig reaksie was nie, hy beslis nie sou deurgetrek het nie. “Hulle het deurnag gewerk om hom betyds by ons te kry,” het sy gesê. “Hy [Pemba] was erg ontwater gewees en ons het hom dadelik op ‘n drip gesit,” het Trendler verlede Vrydag gesê.

Teen Maandag het dit heelwat beter gegaan met die kalfi e. Trendler het gesê hy was ‘n bietjie koliekerig gewees oor die naweek, maar teen Maandag het hy sy kos ingehou en kon daar met veiligheid gesê word dat hy sal oorleef.

The Rhino Orphanage is geleë op die Legends Golf & Safarireservaat buite Mokopane. Dié niekommersiële sorgsentrum, die eerste van sy soort in die land, beywer hom vir die versorging van renosterkalfi es wat wees gelaat word.

Trendler is ook die koördineerder

Die bul , Mike , i s g lo met ‘n swaarkaliber vuurwapen geskiet te midde van streng veiligheidsmaatreëls op die reservaat.

“Dinge is chaoties hier by ons; ons wag nog dat die polisie moet kom en verklarings afneem,” het Trendler Maandag gesê.

‘n Gru-toneel het verlede week motoriste op die N1-noord begroet – die karkasse van vier jaghonde wat aan ‘n boer se plaasheining opgehang is. Te oordeel aan die reuk en vlieë wat om die honde gehang het, is hulle al ‘n paar dae vantevore opgehang. Sover die koerant kon vasstel, was dit onwettige jaghonde wat by die Northwich Game Lodge gevang is en van kant gemaak is. Die Zoutpansberger het in 2011 oor dieselfde ding berig. Destyds het mnr. Lourens Botes van die lodge vyf honde so opgehang as waarskuwing vir die honde se eienaars wat onwettig met hulle jag op die plaas. Hy kon teen druktyd nie vir kommentaar bereik word nie.

‘n Groep van sowat 40 Graad 4- en 5-leerlinge van Laerskool Louis Trichardt het vanaf 21 tot 23 Julie die bittere koue trotseer tydens ‘n oor-lewingskamp by die Schoemansdal Veldskool.

‘n Paar van die mammas het met die kamp se begin maar met ‘n hartseer gemoed afskeid geneem van hul kinders, maar duidelik was die kinders te opgewonde om daaroor bekommerd te wees. Sommer met die intrapslag het een kans gesien vir ‘n “kriekontbyt”.

Tydens die kamp is die kinders onder meer geleer hoe om ‘n kampplek te kies en te beveilig teen wilde diere. Daar is ook geleer van bos etiket, eetbare plante en insekte en hoe om water in die veld te toets of dit bruikbaar is. Daar is ook prakties gekyk na toue en ook hoe om knope te maak. Ander

aktiwiteite het ingesluit bokslag, vleispreservering en kosvoorbereiding met die minimum gereedskap. Daar is ook spoor gesny, rotsklim gedoen en vuur gemaak op “alternatiewe” maniere.

“Die kinders het dit baie geniet en ons gaan vir seker weer so ‘n kamp aanbied,” het die kampleier en aanbieder, mnr. Johan Pieterse, gesê.

Die regering moet daadw-erklike stappe doen om te verhoed dat nie nog boere die bedryf moet verlaat, en die land aangewese moet word op onvol-houbare invoere van elders nie.

Dit is die mening van TLU SA se president, mnr. Louis Meintjies. Hy het in ‘n persver klaring verwys na die jongste bedreiging van dié aard wat veral die hoenderboere in die gesig staar. Hy sê ‘n oormaat hoendervleis van skynbaar swak gehalte word tans ingevoer van uit die Europese Unie en uit Brasilië. Dit, sê Meintjies, het tot gevolg dat SuidAfrikaanse hoenderboere tans noustrop trek, en die gevaar bestaan dat sowat 20 000 werksgeleenthede verlore kan gaan.

“TLU SA ondersteun die pleidooi van die SA Pluimvee Vereniging dat groter invoerheffings op die oormaat ingevoerde

hoendervleis gehef moet word,” sê Meintjes. Hy sê voorts dat die beswaar van die Vereniging van Vleis In en Uitvoerders dat dit gaan lei tot hoër kospryse, slegs gedeeltelik waar is. Volgens Meintjies is invoere na SuidAfri ka in die meeste gevalle nie volhoubaar nie en is slegs seisoenaal in gevalle waar daar elders oorproduksie is en dit net afgelaai word op SuidAfrika. Hy sê sodra daardie oorproduksie afgewerk is en die balans herstel is, sal die beskikbaarheid drasties afneem. Boonop, sê Meintjies, is dit tans so dat invoere die land baie kos, veral in die lig van die verswakking van die rand, en dit sal ingevoerde goedere steeds duurder maak. “Dit is egter nodig dat die plaaslike bedryf in stand gehou moet word, en selfs gestimuleer word om te kan uitbrei. Aangesien hoender die

goedkoopste proteïne is, wat ook toeganklik is vir die armer gemeenskap, kan die regering juis baie werksgeleenthede skep deur die invoerbelasting op hoendervleis te verhoog. Die regering moet besef dat voedsel altyd bekostigbaar sal wees as plaaslike ekonomiese ontwikkeling, en in besonder landbouproduksie, ondersteun gaan word. Dit skep werk en mense wat ‘n inkomste verdien, het dan ook die vermoë om kos te kan koop,” sê Meintjies. Volgens hom verlaat etlike hoenderboere weekliks die bedryf vanweë die huidige toestand in die pluimveebedryf.

“Wanneer ingevoerde produkte sou opdroog, sal die land nie meer die vermoë hê om weer daarin te kan voorsien nie, omdat die bedryf nie opgepas en in stand gehou is nie,” sê Meintjies.

Repair work is to be done to “a massive leak-age” between the Albasini water scheme and the Mowkop reservoir in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) and the water supply will have to be shut down.

The spokesperson of Vhembe district municipality (VDM), Mr Moses Shibambu, sent the information on the leakage on Tuesday this week. Mr David Mukosi, VDM’s Makhado water services manager, told the Zoutpansberger that the major leak was “next to the nursery near Mirandella Dairy”.

“We have shut off the Albasini plant and appointed a contractor, Imorial Constructions, who is busy working on the leak,” Mukosi said.

The water level at the Mowkop reservoir at that stage stood at 60%, while the Bergh Street reservoir was 70% full and the reservoir at Extension 7 was 50% full.

“We agreed with Mr David Mukosi to allow the supply of water and only close between 14:00 and 16:00 and then water will be reopened because the reservoirs do have water,” Shibambu said.

In the meantime, Mr Stephen van Niekerk reported a leaking water pipe in Dassie Street on the dedicated complaints hotline of AfriForum. “As

soon as town water is turned on, the water seeps through the tar at the site of a previous pipe repair and floods the road,” Van Niekerk said on Sunday.

“The water leakage at Dassie Street and Vondeling farm and also the lack of water at Rissik Street 60 have been reported to the technicians and they will handle that as soon as possible,” Shibambu replied on Tuesday. The same day, Mukosi indicated that the team had not started on the Dassie Street problem because a bulk pipeline of 400mm needed urgent attention elsewhere.

The ambitious Mandela Day project of the Zoutpansberg Private Hospital in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) on 18 July is gaining momentum.

The plan is to provide 10 free operations to 10 patients in need of urgent eye surgery. The patients are all from different racial and cultural backgrounds and have already been identified. These operations will be performed free of charge by two eye surgeons, while the services of the anaesthetist are also free. The hospital itself will supply the theatre and theatre personnel at no cost.

A major stumbling block, however, is the cost of the theatre packs needed for the operations. The good news is that Alcon Pharmaceuticals has stepped up and donated R27 750 with regard to the 10 intheatre Phaco packs

at a cost of R2 770 per pack. These packs are the single most expensive surgical items needed.

In addition to Alcon Pharmaceuticals’ donation, the Clouds’ End and Mountain Inn Hotel will be sponsoring the meals of the patients, surgeons, anaesthetist and theatre staff. The two hotels will also be sponsoring the hospitality tent for the patients’ caregivers, as well as accommodation for the doctors and caregivers who need to sleep over for the followup clinic the next day.

The hospital expressed its sincere gratitude towards Alcon Pharmaceuticals, Clouds’ End Hotel and Mountain Inn for the generous donations this week. There are, however, still sponsorships needed to pay for, among others, the theatre medicine (R5 000 per patient) and ward medicine (R200 per patient)

needed. The rest of the surgical theatre pack (consisting of six items at a cost of R2 116 per patient) also still needs to be purchased. Persons wishing to contribute financially to the project are urged to do so. “You can donate any amount. We’ll add all the donations and purchase the necessary items from the total amount,” says Ms Anneke Stroebel of the Zoutpansberg Private Hospital. She adds that the public is also welcome to support the project by sponsoring their services, such as helping out in providing transport for the patients to and from the hospital. “We would really appreciate your support of this project,” says Stroebel. The Zimbabwean police at Beit Bridge and the Musina SAPS have arrested 45 sus-pected criminals, among them smugglers and armed robbers, operating in bushy areas along the Limpopo River.

Police spokesperson Chief Supt Lawrence Chinhengo said the suspects were arrested during a joint border operation along the Limpopo River over the past two weeks.

was aimed at curbing organised crime along the border.

“Some criminals commit crimes in Zimbabwe or South Afri ca and then flee to either of the two countries. We have teamed up as police from the two countries to curb such practices, because crime knows no international boundary,” he said.

The criminal hotspots include Dulibadzimu Gorge and several illegal crossing points dotted along the river. Chinhengo said

the operation was a routine exercise, following an increase in criminal activities around the border area.

Last month, police from the two border towns also conducted a similar exercise during which they arrested 19 suspects.

Chinhengo attributed the crime along the border to an increase in the number of stranded deportees from South Africa, mostly exconvicts, who end up resorting to crime.

The Department of Roads and Transport has extended the renewal date for number plates with the letter “N” to “L”.

In 2002, the provincial government took an executive decision that the new “L” licence number system for the province would become operational, replacing the old “N” numbers.

The determination process of implementation for the phasing out of the Northern Province “N” licence plates was for a period of 10 years from 1 August 2003 to 31 July 2013. While this information is correct and factual, a gazette was issued in 2006, indicating that the phasing out of “N” number plates would be with effect from 1 April 2006 for a period of 10 years.

The implication thereof is that the final date of phasing out will be 30 March 2016. Members of the

Renewal date extendedpublic are, however, advised to change the number plate as soon as possible to avoid congestion on the final day of the deadline.

The “L” licence number system started officially on 1 August 2003 and by 31 March 2016, all “N” licence plates will cease to be legal and only the “L” numbers will be legal. The National Traffic Information System vehicle register has been updated to effect the implementation of the process automatically.

Owners who licenced their vehicles for the first time from 1 August 2003 did not have any option but to licence their vehicles with “L” licence plates. Owners are urged to change the old “N” licence numbers to “L” numbers. (Information issued by the Limpopo Department of Roads and Transport)

A would-be robber was killed and three of his comrades wounded in a shoot-out with the police during a botched cash-in-transit robbery.

The incident occurred last Friday. According to provincial police spokesperson Lt Col Ronel Otto, the police acted on a tipoff that the robbers were planning to rob a Coin Security vehicle which was en route to offload money at a local ATM at Mogwa

di (Dendron). “The four suspects, driving a sedan vehicle, blocked the [security] vehicle and forced it to a standstill,” said Otto. Unfortunately for the robbers, the police were watching them from a distance and intervened as they were about to open the van.

All hell broke loose as the suspects started shooting at the police. “Police members retaliated and shot and injured the four suspects,” said Otto. All four

were taken to hospital, where one later succumbed to his injuries.

During their investigations, said Otto, police officers confiscated two 9mm firearms and two vehicles. One of the vehicles was parked 12 kilometres from the scene, and police suspect that it might have been the robbers’ getaway vehicle.

Neither the police nor the Coin Security guards involved in the shootout were injured.

The aim is to facilitate the smooth administration of the courts and to provide individuals with free legal assistance that will enable them to obtain relief more easily. Vleis (wild, skaap, bees en vark) teen die beste prys in die omgewing sal volop wees, met heerlike pasteie, pannekoek, en poeding vir die fynproe wers om aan te smul.

Kom koop heerlike kerrieenrys en koeke, terte en kleinkoekies te kies en te keur. Die handwerkstalletjie beloof sy gewone verrassings en die kinders kan hulle rande kom rek by die witolifant en die tombola tafels. Verder is daar ook kraakvars groente en die mooiste plante te koop. The theme of this year’s event is “Who killed Lord Kitchener?” with renowned South African historian Prof Louis Changuion as guest speaker. Changuion’s research into this debatable and controversial topic has taken him to Scapa Flow in the north of Scotland where the ship carrying Kitchener was sunk by an explosion.

The founder of Hope in the Storm, Ms Esther Bester of Polokwane, visited Makhado (Louis Trichardt) recently to record a prophetic conference. Esther is the television host of the Prayer and Action Move-ment for South Africa.

Esther is not at all unfamiliar with the town. In June 2005, she started a 2 000km prayer walk from Beit Bridge to Cape Town to pray for unity in the body of Jesus Christ and reached her destination after nine months. She passed through the town early in June.

“The Prayer and Action Move-ment for South Africa captures prayer and action, anything to do with prayer and action to change our land. Among others, we re

corded the prophetic conference of Baird Ministries on 14 and 15 June,” said Esther. Hope in the Storm is aired on Friday nights on GNF (God Never Fails) TV, which is one of the DSTV open channels.

“We trust that people will stand together and provide support, so that it can be aired on all channels, so that South Africa can unite in prayer and action,” said Esther.

Esther is going to walk through Israel from up north to Elat in the far south from 7 October to 2 December. During the 1000km walk, Esther will intercede for Israel and, at the same time, express belief that 1 000 airtime minutes on television will become available, so that the

prayer and action movement can be broadcast across various TV channels. “The 1 000 minutes television time is to bring hope back to South Africa, since Jesus Christ is our only hope,” said Bester.

Esther is also the author of the book “Daughter, hold My hand”, where she relates her life experiences with the intention to help guide the reader to find his or her purpose in life and to have a relationship with God by holding his hand.

Two personalities from Limpopo are at the helm of a national forum for the development and empowerment of artists, models, actors, presenters and dancers, established during a meeting earlier this week in Pretoria.

Project manager Freedom Boikanyo, with assistant project manager Kotie van der Merwe, disclosed details of their ambitious project during an interview in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) last week.

“Our mission is to unlock the doors for upcoming artists, with a vision to assist them to the upper levels,” says Freedom.

They envisage that the National DMMA (Dancing, Modelling, Music and Acting) Forum will ensure that upcoming artists will get the necessary recognition among all the relevant authorities and structures. “It can change a lot of lives. The organization stands for development and empowerment and for the creation of managerial structures and

processes, which will reflect the demographics and values of the wider society.

“The forum is protransformation and we envisage to be the foremost organization in the development of managerial leadership and advancing development transformation of artists, actors, models, presenters and dancers in South Africa.”

Representatives from various towns in various provinces were previously recruited and activated for the founder meeting in Pretoria.

The official launch of the forum will take place later this year, but Freedom and Kotie gave a glimpse of some of the upcoming events to be organized by the forum. These include competitions to find The Face of Limpopo and The Face of Gauteng during November and culminating in The Face of South Africa, early in December this year.

property, fund new business concepts, finance growth, and expand into global markets.

Top achievers in the competition will be assessed for possible funding by venture capital and growth funding vehicles, with a focus on alleviating the country’s socioeconomic and environmental challenges. These include global and local heavyweights Hasso Plattner Ventures Africa, Impact Amplifier, Crowdinvest and Horizen Ventures.

The competition is open to earlystage innovators working on projects or ideas with commercial potential, or more established innovationbased SMMEs in need of financial or nonfinancial support in scaling up. Die Soutpansberg Muurbalklub het op 11 en 12 Junie twee pret-aande gehou om geld in te samel vir ‘n belowende jong provinsiale muurbalspeler, Anton van Molendorf, wat onlangs met breinkanker gediagnoseer is. Dennis Smit van Makhado (Louis Trichardt) het die plaaslike klub uitgedaag dat as hulle R3 000 “op die tafel” sit, sal hy sy hare afskeer. Hy het die uitdaging verloor en sy hare (en baard) moes waai. Bo begin Mariska du Plooy om Dennis se lokke af te sny. Onder is die fi nale produk. Die klub het hul dank uitgespreek teenoor almal wat die projek ondersteun het. Heelwat meer geld is ingesamel, wat eersdaags aan Anton oorhandig sal word.

According to a news report, a certain private school in Newcastle upon Tyne was recently faced with a unique problem. A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom.

That was fi ne, but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints.

Every night the maintenance man would remove them and the next day the girls would put them back. Finally the headmis-tress decided that something had to be done.

She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the cus-todian who had to clean the mirrors every night (you can just imagine the yawns from the little Geordie Princesses).

To demonstrate how diffi cult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the main-tenance man to show the girls how much effort was required. He took out a long-han-dled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it.

Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror.

There are teachers ... and then there are educators.

Wysheid kom met die grysheid

‘n Sakevriend vertel my die storie van die ouerige kêrel wat Vrydagmiddag by die juwelierswinkel op die dorp opdaag met die pragtigste jong blonde dametjie aan sy sy.

Hy vra die juwelier om ‘n paar spesiale ringe vir sy meisie te wys.

Die juwelier verdwyn agter die toonbank en sit ‘n ring voor die meisie neer wat so amper R5 000 kos.

“Nee,” sê die man. “Ons is eintlik op soek na ietsie ‘n bietjie meer spesiaal.”

Die juwelier maak die laaie agter die toonbank oop en haal ‘n ring uit van hier dig by die R50 000.

“Ons het eintlik gedink aan iets wat werklik besonders is,” sê die man.

Die juwelier besef dat hy die paartjie dalk verkeerd opgesom het en gaan na die kluis toe. Hy haal ‘n ring uit van bykans R200 000 wat hy voor die opgewonde dametjie neersit. Hy kan sien hoe haar oë begin blink en sy begin bewe van opge-wondenheid.

“Ons sal dit neem, dankie,” sê die ou man.

Die juwelier vra toe baie diskreet oor betaling, waarop die ou man hom dadelik gerusstel.

“Ek gee sommer vir jou ‘n tjek, maar ek aanvaar jy moet eers by die bank seker maak dat die geld beskikbaar is. Hou die ring en my tjek en dan maak ek Maandag-middag gou ‘n draai en laai die pakkie op,”

sê die man.Maandagoggend bel ‘n erg geïrri-

teerde juwelier die ou man om te kla: “Daar is geen geld in daardie rekening nie!”

“Ek weet,” sê die ou man, “Maar kan ek jou vertel watter wonderlike naweek ek gehad het.”

The Haircut

Blessed are those that can give without remembering, and take without forgetting.

One day a fl orist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you, I’m doing commu-nity service this week.’

The fl orist was pleased and left the shop. When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you, I’m doing community service this week.’ The cop was happy and left the shop.

The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a ‘thank you ‘ card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Then a Member of Parliament came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill , the barber again replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you. I’m doing com-munity service this week.’ The Member of Parliament was very happy and left the shop.

The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen Members of Parliament lined up waiting for a free haircut.

And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citi-zens of our country and the politicians who run it.

Die huidige bloedvoorraad is op ‘n kritieke vlak en insamelings is ook laag as gevolg van die koue weerstoestande en skole en universiteite wat gesluit is.

Insamelings het só drasties afgeneem dat daar nou sleg ‘n 1.7-dag voorraad beskikbaar is. Hierdie is aansienlik minder as die 5-dag voorraad wat benodig word om te verseker dat daar in die land se behoefte aan veilige bloed voorsien word. SANBS moet daagliks 3000 eenhede bloed insamel en van die begin van die wintervakansie af word hierdie doelwit nie bereik nie.

“Ons vra dat die publiek elke dag as Mandeladag sien en gereelde bloedskenkers word. Hierdie

onbaatsugtige daad kan tot drie lewens red en skenkers kan elke 56 dae ‘n verskil maak in stede van slegs een maal ‘n jaar. Skenkers se bloed is noodsaaklik om te help om die lewens te verander van dié wat op bloedoortappings staatmaak om te oorleef,” sê die SANBS in ‘n mediavrystelling.

Hierdie is ‘n beroep op alle Suid-Afrikaners wat aan die minimum vereistes voldoen om hulself te verbind tot bloedskenking, veral gedurende hierdie moeilike tydperk.

Minimum vereistes om ‘n bloedskenker te wees is dat persone tussen die ouderdom van 16 en 65 jaar moet wees, meer as 50kg weeg, goeie gesond-heid geniet en ‘n veilige seksuele leefstyl handhaaf.

As ailing former president Nelson Mandela is still in a critical condition in hospital in Pretoria, the Makhado municipal library initiated a programme on Tuesday to inform the community about the history of the former president. Wat Saterdag se wedrenne betref, sal daar weer ‘n 10km pretrit wees vir die jongklomp, en vir diegene wat vir bietjie meer kans sien, is daar die 35km halfmarathon. Vir diegene wat dink hulle is fi ks genoeg is daar die moordende 70km marathon. Deelname in die onderskeie wedrenne kos onderskeidelik R40, R80 en R150 met tydelike lisensies vir die 35km en 70km wat R35 sal kos. Deelnemers aan die 70km wedren sal om 08:00 wegspring. Die wegspringtye vir die 35km en 10km is onderskeidelik 08:15 en 08:30. Die wedrenorganiseerder is Johan van Dijkhorst (082 740 8740). Daar kan die naweek van die wedrenne ingeskryf word. Muurbalspelers van regoor Suid-Afrika het vanaf 22 tot 26 Junie kragte gemeet tydens die jaarlikse interprovinsiale O/19-muurbalkampioenskappe in die Kaap. Erik Welman van Makhado (Louis Trichardt) het as nommer een speler van die Suid Afrikaanse Plattelandse span ook deelgeneem en vyf van sy sewe wedstryde gewen. Die O/19-plattelandspan kwyt hulle goed van hul taak teen die groter provinsies en sterker stedelike spanne en eindig naelskraap in die vierde posisie. Westelike Provinsie A was die algehele wenners, met Noord-Gauteng in die tweedeplek en Westelike Provinsie B in die derdeplek. Afgeneem is die O/19-plattelandspan en hul bestuurders. Voor, van links na regs, is Louhan Stanvliet (George), Ronel Welman (spanbestuurder) en Christiaan Labuschagne (Polokwane). Craven Week comes to LimIt is almost time again for the highlight of the school rugby calendar, the annual Coca-Cola Craven Week.

As one of the most elite tournaments in the country, this year’s Craven Week will be hosted in the Limpopo Province for the first time ever.

The week will kick off at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on 8 July and finish on 13 July. This year’s tournament will mark this prestigious event’s halfcentury celebration and as such,

players and organisers will be pulling out all the stops to ensure that local fans and families are not disappointed. The first Craven Week was held in 1964 and, since then, a lot of famous players have passed through the ranks, including John Smit, Victor Matfield, Chiliboy Ralepelle and Dean Greyling.

The Craven Week forms part of the momentous CocaCola Youth Weeks “where heroes are made”. It includes the U/13 Craven Week where youngsters

“tackle the future”, the U/16 Grant Khomo Week, the U/18 Academy Week and the LSEN (Learners with Special Education Needs) Week.

The junior tournament of the Craven Week has already been played in BelaBela, and Limpopo will host the U/13 and U/18 tournaments.

Around 500 players and team officials will arrive in Polokwane for the tournament.
