This publication was launched by the Rejoice organisation nine years ago with a view to serving the community. Next year Rejoice will take a step forward to collaborate with the Canaan Centre in a project named 'Rejoice in Canaan' where community building activities would be held in its school and boarding premises covering an area of over 45,000 sqm.

Canaan Centre is just 2 km from Boxhill, the hub of Chinese community. The spacious classrooms, sport ground, activity centre and hostel are very suitable as a Chinese Community Centre. The owner Mr Cheng bought the premises nine years ago with the ministry intent to serve overseas students; indeed over the years it has been used as a vocational training institute providing learning and boarding facilities for overseas students. Build on these existing ministry works, 'Rejoice in Canaan' will cover other services such as weekend children school, weekday after school tutoring, Chinese cultural learning, Christian education, elderly activities and many other community functions.

'Rejoice in Canaan' has two tiers of meaning. The first one is obvious that it is a joint project between Canaan Centre and Rejoice organisation. For many years, Christian found Rejoice organisation has been well received in the Chinese community through our platforms and activities including Sameway, Rejoice on Air, adult education, student caring, community building etc. Now with the support of the Canaan Centre, I believe the joint efforts would certainly enhance the opening up of the centre in offering more community ministry services and in building our community more effectively.

The next notion of 'Rejoice in Canaan' stems from our understanding of the name of the place Canaan . In the Bible it is referred to as the land flowing with milk and honey'which God has promised the Israelites as well as God's blessing promised to Abraham when he was called upon to leave Ur. We, as Chinese immigrants all forfeit our past and origin and come to this foreign land of Australia, are just like Abraham looking forward to a blessed future; we are indeed after a land called 'Canaan' of better future. 'Rejoice in Canaan' can make this happen when we can find our own 'Canaan' in rejoice. I believe if we all could give our best to offer in our daily life, 'Canaan' is just around us and we can share rejoice in our life.

'Rejoice in Canaan' needs your support and participation. Please watch out promotion materials in next year's Sameway or feel free to contact me if you want to know more details about the project, I am more than happy to share this Godly vision with you.
