All at a sudden, Li Wang-yang has become a centre of attention for everyone outside China. Why? Because his case has hit the bottom line of respecting life for the general majority. A man full of patriotism has been under repression for 23 years with severe bodily harm inflicted and eventually to face unavoidable and unbelievable death process; all traces of his existence were gone in an instance. It is just like crushing an ant with a finger. I think it was due to this non-belief of treatment by a country on the people that prompted the 25,000-strong rally in Hong Kong on Sunday.

Over the past year, from the cases of Ai Wei-wei, Chen Guang-cheng and Li Wang-yang, I have been pondering on a hard question as to how much Chinese people have to sacrifice in order to maintain national stability. For the era of the emperors, I can understand why they want to keep their power and privileges in the expenses of all grassroots people. But why 100 years after the revolution had toppled the dynasty ruling, people are still living under dark humility?

To-date the Chinese government is still not giving out any clear statement on the death of Li Wang-yang. Is it because the intent of keeping stability has become too overwhelming, or is it just a localised administrative problem or there are some other issues? It is everybody s guess.

Looking back, cases like Li Wang-yang s have not been uncommon. Every instance aroused many mind-searching questions: Is there a Heaven and is there a God and who is in control?

I hope God s righteousness and comfort would be with everyone amid this time of despair and desperation.
