On last Saturday morning I received Mr Li's call from Sydney on a hot issue which we had a special column last week – A world of locusts in Hong Kong. Mr Li said we did not examine this issue on the life of Hong Kong people from a Hong Kong people's perspective.

Firstly I must thank Mr Li for his concern and support by pointing out our deficiency. Mr Li's soft reminder really delighted and appalled me in a way on how the community really lays expectation on our publication. I am delighted because I know our readers are concerned about the truthfulness and fairness of our stance in reporting, they acknowledge that we should be an objective and just community publication which can relate to the readers, rather than merely a magazine filled up with web-sourced materials. I am appalled because I realise we are a bit powerless in attaining a high standard of publication due to our limited experience and resource. I can only hope that more readers would come in as Mr Li to offer more suggestion and thrust for our better outcome.

Secondly, our editing co-workers came from different places including Hong Kong and China. We are devoted in objectively studying and reporting issues covering Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South East Asian Chinese communities, hot issues happening in Australia and around the world are also covered. We believe all these are of interest to local Chinese here as when we must broaden our horizon in knowing the world around us. Say in last issue we had a wide range of special columns on global topics of violent unrest in Syria, mainland pregnant women in Hong Kong, stock listing of Facebook, Murdoch Children Research Institute in Melbourne.

Thirdly, we believe it is natural for any multi-facet society to have different voices in response to controversial community affair. The job of an editor is to collate all viewpoints and hard data and to come up with a fair and objective report. Readers coming from different origins may have special concerns on some particular issues happening in some particular places. Yet Sameway would not serve any particular political agenda relating to any particular place; we only insist on covering any local or worldwide issue which we believe has an impact on human life.

Lastly, as a Hong Kong immigrant I am no different to many readers who invariably are more interested in some Hong Kong hot issues. So, I am feeling the same as Mr Li on the vulnerable state of Hong Kong subsequent to the 1997 handover. But from overseas here we could hardly do anything except to convey more of our encouragement and support to our friends and relatives in Hong Kong. We want them to keep hoping that the government would take better care of our fatherland in a way that the lovely people in

this lovely place could have a lovely life.
