A few days ago on a new book release occasion I came across a science scholar Prof Tonggeng Xi. He surprised me when he told me enthusiastically that over his past two years stay in Melbourne he had been keeping track of our bilingual editorials for the purpose of cross referencing the use of Chinese and English languages.

Actually over the years there had been queries from our readers as on why we should publish the editorial in bilingual. We know the majority of our readers are Chinese; but for some special columns such as our car edition we choose to make it bilingual because from survey result we know many car fans are our 2nd generation Chinese who prefer to read English. Publishing the editorial in English as well is to make sure our viewpoints on some hot issues in our Chinese community could be made known to the policy makers and concerned parties of the Australian government and the mainstream society.

Chinese living in Australia should integrate into the mainstream life. Many local newspapers only focus on local community issues rather than coping with the information need of this globalisation era. Our special columns however are covering both local issues concerning our Chinese communities as well as national and international events. As a living magazine, we have also been inviting writers of all sorts of expertises in putting up specialized articles; we have been receiving input from our readers and offer of writing services from volunteers in sharing professional and living experiences with others through our publication. We are very thankful to their support for so many years.

Some readers label us as an evangelical publication because of the Christian nature of some of our articles. Yet readers with us for long would concur that we respect the religious stance of our readers. We just see the importance of spiritual need of human and thus we always encourage people to fulfil their spiritual needs. I hope Sameway is an all-round publication that could build up and enrich life of our readers.
