Keep stress under controlduring examsWith the end of the year exams around the cor-ner, you may already feel the pressure.“Don’t let the looming exams turn you into

anervouswreck.Takeadeepbreathandfollowthese tips to get you through the exams,” saysMonique Harrisberg CEO of The Voice Clinic, situated in Johannesburg, Pretoria, CapeTown and Durban. There areways tomake your life less frantic

during this period so that you can perform atyour best. Remember cramming, an examtrade mark, is not going to do your brain ornerves any favours.“That’s why itmakes sense to start planning

for your exams as soon as you receive your ex-am timetable,” says Harrisberg.“Determine the amount of work you have to

cover, the time that it may take you to do soand set up a study schedule. Divide your studymaterial foreachsubject intobite-sizedchunksand allocate them to specific hours or days onyour schedule. Although tempting, don’tmakeyour least favourite subjects, your last priori-ty,” says Harrisberg.Plan your time, draw up a realistic schedule

and stick to it. Include some relaxation as itis not healthy to have your nose in your booksall the time. Break up your time with shortbreaks.Don’t be unrealistic, you have a good idea

ofwhatyouarecapableof.Beingrealisticaboutyour results will help prevent you from beingdisappointed when the results come.Avoid alcohol or recreational drugs, these

are not the way to deal with your stress right

now. Also try not to drink toomuch coffee; thecaffeine won’t help you to concentrate.Revise methodically; simply reading long

swathes of text is not going to help you remem-ber facts and figures. Write out importantdates, facts or passages, use lots of colouredpens and underline key phrases. Go back overthese notes a day later and a week after that.Your memory will be better and you will feelmore confident about your exams.Test yourself or get someone to test you on

your notes. Regular testingmeans that you re-member facts better and any gaps in yourknowledge can be picked up in good time andthat makes the actual exam a lot less stressful.Stick post-it’s with key facts and phrases on

these and stick them around your room, aftera while these facts will sink in.Ignore your friends, not entirely of course.

Don’tuse themasabenchmark; knowyourselfand knowwhat you have to do. You are in thisfor yourself. There is a great source of support available,

all you have to do is ask. Ask a teacher if youdon’t understand a particular topic or there isalways your mom and dad or siblings.Remember, exercise is a great way to give

yourself a break and to max out your concen-tration span. A fifteen minute jog or a briskwalk is all you have to do.Contact The Voice Clinic in Cape Town,

You are in a festive, partying mood and just want to play and share a good time withyour friends. Community social events and fellowship are very rewarding now. Also, atthis time it is hard for you to say no to food, drink, or extravagances in any form. You

are also very generous and tolerant toward others.

(22 December - 21 January)CAPRICORN

Your thoughts turn to love and this is a favorable time to bring out any concerns you havein your personal relationships. Agreements and cooperation can be achieved easily now.You readily discuss your personal needs and desires. Also, you are more aware of beautyand may want to rearrange your decor or buy something to beautify your surroundings.

(21 January - 20 February)

AQUARIUS

At this time your interactions with others and with the outside world in general can beconfusing, devitalizing, and discouraging. It seems that whatever you try to do goes

nowhere or gets lost in a haze of misunderstanding. This is not a good time to try to tootyour own horn or attempt to get personal recognition for your efforts.

PISCES(20 February - 21 March)

At this time your interactions with others and with the outside world in general can beconfusing, devitalizing, and discouraging. It seems that whatever you try to do goes nowhereor gets lost in a haze of misunderstanding. This is not a good time to try to toot your own

horn or attempt to get personal recognition for your efforts.

ARIES(21 March - 21 April)

Tangles in romantic relationships are likely now. Your sexual drive is quitestrong, and you may be more concerned with satisfying your own desires than inbeing sensitive to your partner. All interactions with people of the opposite sex

are inclined to be tense right now.

TAURUS(21 April - 21 May)

Your desire for love and affection, as well as beauty and pleasure, is strong now andyou act on feelings and creative impulses more readily than usual. If you are not

happy with some aspect of your personal life, these issues arise at this time and theremay be disagreements or tension in a close relationship.

GEMINI(21 May - 22 June)

You are prone to act erratically in your relationships. A sudden infatuation or animpulse to break free or make radical changes in a current relationship is likely. Also, a taste for the unusual and unconventional emerges. You may find yourself

enjoying things you never thought you would like.

LEO(23 July - 24 August)

You are serious and disinclined to frivolous or inconsequential activity. It's a time bestspent working alone, structuring and organizing your life in some way, and focusing

on whatever tasks (however distasteful or tedious) that you really need to do. You feellike withdrawing from people and find social situations unfulfilling or wasteful.

VIRGO(24 August - 23 September)

You feel more lackadaisical now, less focused on mundane tasks, and possiblyless energetic as well. Your imagination and fantasy life is very active and youcan dream up some very creative ideas. Negatively, you tend to dissipate your

energy or to avoid the real world.

CANCER(22 June - 23 July)

At this time your interactions with others and with the outside world in general canbe confusing, devitalizing, and discouraging. It seems that whatever you try to do

LIBRA(23 September - 23 October)

Self-discipline, training, persevering through a dry or slow period, and working quietlyor in meager circumstances are themes in this time period. You have the ability and

stamina to concentrate, to work carefully and thoroughly, and to accomplish somethingmodest, yet of real practical value and substance now.

SCORPIO(23 October - 23 November)

Your desire for pleasure, ease, and affection is brought to the fore and may interfere withwork or complicated situations in which you need to be acting assertively and on your

Be sensible with your finances this festive seasonWith the festive season nearing,FNB is urging South Africans tomanage their credit-based spend-ing more sensibly.

“Some borrowers like to thinkthatcredit ispatient. This, togeth-er with forgetfulness aboutnumber of loans, is the main rea-son why many borrowers fall intoadebt trap,” saysJohanMaree,CEO of FNB Credit Card.

Figures (to June 2013) issuedyesterday by the National Credit

Regulator showed a modest in-crease of 0,6% in the number of cus-tomers who were not meeting theirmonthly loan repayments, and asmall decline in credit advanced forunsecured loans and credit card fa-cilities.

“Consumer spending is bound toincrease with the festive and holi-day season approaching and it iscrucial that consumers monitortheir credit expenditure and realis-tically assess what they can afford

to spend after adding their existing loan pay-ments,” adds Maree.

Retail accounts and credit cards are effec-tivetransactional tools ifusedwithinbounda-ries. However, when used to fund a lifestylethat is not realistically within your means ofliving, the risk of being caught up in a debtspiral increases significantly. FNB has no-ticed thataccounts tendtogo intoarrearsdur-ing themonthofJanuaryresulting incustom-ers starting the New Year off with bad creditratings and a growing inability to make mini-mum payments.

Maree advises that debt consolidation is agood option to consider when making month-ly minimum repayments become difficult.

Debt consolidation allows you to merge re-tails store debt, short-term loans, personalloans and other credit card debt into an ac-count, making the administration thereofmanageable.

“Although it provides relief by loweringmonthly payments, debt consolidation is notthe answer for consumers spending abovetheirmeans. Consultyourbankfordebtreliefsolutions so that you take control of your fi-nances,” concludes Maree.

Nou is my vraag: “Hoe benaderjy jou besigheid?”

If you failto plan, you plan to fail.
